☀️ Builder's Morning
A gentle one to start the week, and it's about your community, not this one. A lot of us carry a quiet belief that caring about people and earning a living from that care are somehow in tension, that the purest way to help is to do it for free. And that belief, however noble it feels, can quietly wear a builder down. Here's the reframe worth sitting with... A community that can't sustain the person running it eventually can't keep showing up for its members either. Taking care of yourself, including being paid fairly for real value, isn't the opposite of serving your people. Sometimes it's what lets you keep serving them at all. No agenda here, just something worth making peace with before it becomes a real challenge. Where might you be treating "serving people" and "sustaining yourself" as opposites, when they might actually need each other?

This hit home for me. @Donna Thornton I used to think monetization happened when someone bought something. But I'm starting to see it differently. Every time a member gets clarity, takes action, shares a win, or recommends the community to someone else, they're creating value. Revenue is just one expression of that value. The real job is building a community that's genuinely worth coming back to. The business becomes much easier when that's true.
🔬 The Biggest Thing We Learned
On Friday, I promised I'd share the single most important thing this first research project taught us. Here it is. And it's not really about outcomes at all. For a month, we ran the research project alongside the community. We'd post prompts, ask questions, host sessions- all this extra activity layered on top of everything else, hoping people would show up to the "research." And somewhere in the middle of it, it hit me. We were doing it backwards. The research was never supposed to be a separate thing we run on the side. The community is the research. Everything that's already happening here, the questions you ask, the wins you share, the things you notice in your own communities, the honest comments, the conversations that wander somewhere unexpected, all of that is the data. We don't need to manufacture research activity. We just need to pay attention to what's already alive, in this room, in your communities, and in the wider world of people building things worth belonging to. Once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it. Some of the most important insights this whole month came not from anything we planned, but from a member saying something offhand in a comment that turned out to be the whole point. The research was happening whether we orchestrated it or not. Our job wasn't to create it. It was to notice it and reflect it. That changes how we want to do all of this going forward. Including next month. You already know August is about monetization. So, here's how we're going to approach it, in light of what we just learned. We're not going to study monetization from the outside, like a textbook topic. We're going to notice how it's already happening, right here, in our own communities. Because here's a thought I can't shake, and it's where we'll start... Your community is already monetizing every single day, even on the days you're not selling anything. We just haven't been looking at it that way, yet. More on that this week. For now, I'd love to know...

Thanks for sharing this with all of us, @Donna Thornton . ❤️ One thing I've noticed in my own community is that the best conversations almost never come from the post I spent the most time planning. They come from a genuine question, a follow-up comment, or someone sharing a challenge they're facing. It reminded me that communities aren't built by creating more content they're built by paying closer attention to the conversations that are already happening. Those small moments often reveal what people truly need, and that's where the biggest opportunities to serve come from. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this way of thinking shapes the monetization discussions this month. I have a feeling there are a lot of insights hiding in plain sight. 🙌
🌿 Sunday Reflection
Every conversation has something to teach us. I've been thinking about that a lot this week. As I looked back through our conversations, Golden Ticket calls, scorecards, posts, and comments, I realized something. You're not just building communities. You're building the kind of communities the rest of us can learn from. 💚This week, I watched someone find clarity after feeling pulled in too many directions. 💚I watched someone discover that a small win really was worth celebrating. 💚I watched members encourage complete strangers as if they'd known each other for years. 💚I watched thoughtful questions become breakthroughs. 💚I watched confidence quietly replace comparison. And through it all, you've reminded me of something I don't want to forget. Healthy communities aren't built because someone has all the answers. 💙They're built by people who stay curious. 💙People who are willing to share what they're learning. 💙People who celebrate one another's progress. 💙People who keep showing up. That's what I see happening here. So before another week begins... 🌟Thank you. 🌟Thank you for your questions. 🌟Thank you for your generosity. 🌟Thank you for your encouragement. 🌟Thank you for trusting us enough to learn alongside you. Every one of you is helping shape what Skoolology is becoming. As we begin another week together, I hope we never lose our curiosity. Because if the past few weeks have taught me anything, it's this: ❣️The best discoveries rarely begin with certainty. ❣️They begin with a thoughtful question. I'd love to end this week by learning from you one more time. 💡What's one conversation that taught you something this week? It could have happened here, in another community, or even offline. Sometimes the smallest conversations leave the biggest impression. Have a wonderful Sunday, friends. ❤️ Every conversation has something to teach us.

Welcome, @Arnold Wong ! Great to have you here! We like that you're thinking intentionally before launching your community. That's exactly what this space is for. Your goal of creating more engaging posts and attracting the right audience is something many of us are working on, too. We hope you'll jump into the conversations and ask lots of questions. Looking forward to learning alongside you!

☀️ Builder's Morning
Here's a quiet act of courage most builders skip... Deciding, for yourself, what success actually means for your members. Not the flashy version, the real one. When you leave that undefined, you end up chasing someone else's scoreboard, and no number is ever enough. But when you can name the specific change you want for the people you serve, you finally have something true to aim at, and something honest to feel proud of when it happens. So ponder this one today... What does a real win look like for one of your members? Not for you, for them.

@Kelly S. Kelly I'm guessing you thought I was talking about YouTube because that's pretty much my world. I actually meant something broader than that. You've already created something people naturally recommend, and that's incredibly valuable. I was just thinking about how more people could discover that without you feeling like you have to become a salesperson.

@Alice Rienzo Alexander I like that approach. It sounds like you're using social content to build trust first, and YouTube is the next step to help more of the right people discover your community. One thing that stood out to me is that a lot of people start YouTube because they know they "should," but they don't always have a clear strategy behind it. What's your vision for YouTube? What role are you hoping it plays in growing your community over the next year?
