Bach
Haven’t posted in awhile mostly due to the all consuming business that is college especially as I prepare for upcoming graduate school auditions. Wanted to share the Bach and its progress which has been steady these past couple of weeks. Always struggle with this one but think I’m finally getting it down haha

@Dalton Marshall yeah it’s kinda already tenacious D though weirdly enough Kyle was a classical guitarist studying at University of California when he met Jack Black so a lot of there riffs are classically focused! There’s a couple of interviews where Kyle talks about it! Same with Randy Rhodes he even composed a classical style piece called “Dee”

Yeah it extends to a lot of different genres too like animals as leaders on the extreme end having guitarists with classical training! Funny you mention the classical flamenco connection, there’s a lot of history there too I’ve discovered recently regarding that and how for a long time before recent flamenco was seen as kinda bad to classical guitarists haha. Guys like Segovia in fact refused to play it in their rep. It’s only recently that it’s started to become standardized much like a lot of Latin American composers like barrios who’s music has only with the past 40 odd years become standard when he lived in the 1800s.

As per my last post, here is the song I wrote. This piece was literally written within the past 2 hours so it’s not perfect but it’s really reflective of how I feel and what’s going on in my life.

Stand for something
Today I had a stimulating conversation with a good friend of mine at a coffee shop. We discussed some philosophy and psychology and the thing that stuck with me is this idea that came about of, “If I stand for nothing, I will fall for anything” While also recognizing that people need to make different choices for certain outcomes to come about. I got home and immediately started writing a song. The lyrics are attempting to grab something specific about morals and deciding which direction to push or pull, claiming that each individual is responsible for taking action in their lives. Many of us have been shellshocked by the world recently. The government, media, and circumstances. It is so polarized and politicized that often times it feels easiest to remain unmoved and to ignore it feeling hopeless about it all. I’m no revolutionary. But, I am moved. I have an opinion. And I’m firm about it. I am for the light. I am for the higher order of love and connection. I can hold the darkness, see it, respect it, and still the power that created this song tells me that we still must choose in the face of neutrality. There is something deep within me that knows which way I must aim for my future. Being totally passive is to miss that aim. I know there’s a fire burning in you. All I’m asking is that you listen to it and don’t push it away. And I’ll write the song. Fair enough? Cool. 🤟❤️❤️❤️
