Friends and Future Authors, A great way to fund the publication of your book is to find and write grants. But where should you start? My friend, colleague, and co-author @Danielle Desir Corbett has a fantastic platform, Grants for Creators. She curates grants so you don't have to spend dozens of hours searching for them online (and I'm not exaggerating about how many hours you'll spend looking for grants; I have applied for and won 6 technology grants as a STEM teacher in my former life). I talk to so many people about writing their book. One reply that comes back consistently is, "I think I'm too old to write a book." Guess what? One of my ghostwriting clients published his first book at 80. I just came back from my Oregon Coast Lighthouse birthday road trip, and I ran into a guy named Dave at a lighthouse tour who was into frisbee and disc golf (which is what my client's book is about). I asked him, "Hey, do you know Tom Schot?" He said, "Yes! He gave me a signed copy of his memoir!" "I was his ghostwriter! I sat down with him weekly to write his book." "Small world, that's a great book!" Dave said, and we went on to talk about the stories behind the stories in Tom's book, why he wrote it, and what it meant to him. Dave said, "I remember seeing him in the halftime show as a kid, with that dog, in the middle of summer. I'll never forget that show, he was amazing!" That show was 40 years ago, and here we are in 2026, an adult, remembering a childhood experience and now re-excited about it when he reconnected with my client, Tom. That is the power of books.
