Introducing THE IELTS COURT!
Every month, this community will hold a live trial. A real controversial statement — on technology, education, the environment, society — will be put before the court. You will prepare your argument in writing during the week — and I will give every single entry a live band score and examiner comment in the community feed. The strongest writers from each side will advance to the live Zoom event, where they argue their case out loud — two minutes, no notes, me watching and scoring on screen in real time. After every speaker, I will give you an examiner's verdict — exactly what I would think sitting across from you in an IELTS Speaking test. Not kind teacher feedback. Real examiner thinking. At the end I will crown the IELTS Court Champion — not the person who won the argument, but the person who demonstrated the strongest IELTS language. The first case is going to be controversial. You are going to want to be in the courtroom. The court is now in session. Please tell me who wants to participate in the comments , take care !

I am excited to be part of this court
Here is your activity for this today — I want to see your answers in the comments below.
I am going to give you one sentence from an academic text. Your job is to rewrite it THREE times using completely different vocabulary — same meaning, different words. No word from the original sentence may appear in your paraphrase. Original sentence: "Governments worldwide are implementing stricter regulations to combat the growing problem of plastic pollution in the world's oceans." Rules: — No word from the original may be used — All three versions must mean exactly the same thing — You have until Friday Why this matters: Paraphrase is a two-way skill. When you can CREATE paraphrases, you automatically get better at RECOGNISING them in exam conditions. This is the single fastest way to improve your Reading score — and your Writing score at the same time. Post your three versions below. I will read every single one and tell you which version is strongest and why. The best paraphrase of the week gets pinned to the top of the community feed. See you in the comments. šŸ‘‡
