COMMUNION READING CHECK-IN: CHAPTERS 2–4
Ladies, as we continue reading Communion: The Female Search for Love by bell hooks, I want us to do more than read the words. I want us to pay attention to what the words bring up in us. This week, as you read Chapters 2, 3, and 4, notice what challenges you, what resonates with you, and what makes you think differently about love. Here's your reflection question: Have you ever had to unlearn something you were taught about love in order to experience relationships differently? You don't have to share your entire story. You can share the lesson, the realization, or even the question you're still working through. And if you're still figuring it out, that's okay, too. Let's talk about it in the comments. What we once believed doesn't have to determine what we believe forever. ❤️

In chapter 2 your questions 3 and 4 brought up taught. I’m realizing that I always view love as unspoken. As a child and in adolescence every married was similar when it came to communication, there was much of it. I actually thought that marriage was love, so I longed to have a family of my own and get married in order to feel the void because my mother and dad were divorced, but the one or two good marriages I was around made me feel like that’s what love was and what I was missing. I also taught that I was showing my children what love was by being in a marriage. My husband and I never really showed our affectionate sides around the children in order to provide layers of what love could actually mean, if that makes sense.
