Rock My Soul- bell hooks
We concluded our final chapter today and I have to say, it was so gripping. It was eye opening and highlighted for me the importance of critical thinking. Even if you couldn't join today I'd like to extend this question to you. I would love for you to respond here but maybe you prefer to journal it and share at another time. Either way here it is.... What part of this book felt most personal or affirming to you as a Black woman navigating healing, identity, or belonging?

Excited to be with you all tomorrow. Zoom link is the same as last week. It’s at the top of the page under book club. Let me know if you have any issues finding it.

@Angela Moline Thank you for sharing that. Access to resources is something I think many of have taken for granted at one time or another or don't often realize the importance of it.

@Tamara Peterson We missed you. Next Saturday we’ll be discussing Chapters 6-13 finishing up the book and discussion.
Today.
Today we are discussing 3 takeaways from the reading. 1. Healing is not about becoming less strong It is becoming less alone in our strength. 2. Boundaries are not rejection. They are self-respect. We can create boundaries without cutting ourselves off from things and people who have been integral in our lives. 3. Joy is not frivolous. For Black women whose identities were built around survival, joy can become a form of reclamation. It becomes a way for us to take back something that systems, trauma, shame, or survival tried to steal, limit, or make us feel we were undeserving of. Will you make it out today? If so, see you in about 25 minutes.
