I turned my whole business group into an AI-run operating system with Claude Code
This week I finally built something I've wanted for years: one place that runs my entire business, and Claude Code operates it. Background: I run a few companies here in South Africa, an IT firm, a software dev company, a marketing agency, and a tech holding with a handful of SaaS products. For 20 years all of that lived in my head and in scattered folders. No single tool ever fit how I actually work. So I stopped looking for a tool and built my own operating system. Plain folders and markdown files, driven by Claude Code. What's inside it now: - Every business has its own home, with Marketing, Sales, Product/Dev and Operations/Finance sections - A full architecture map: who owns what, the % splits, the legal structure, and where I want it to go - My personal brand as its own space (LinkedIn, YouTube, X, and my Skool communities, this one included) - It knows every web app my dev team has built, and how to run and deploy each one - It references every other Claude project I've built this year, so nothing ever starts from scratch Here's the part that matters for this community: I didn't fill in a template. I told Claude Code how my business actually works, and it structured itself around me. When I had ownership wrong, I corrected it once and it fixed it everywhere. I dropped a channel I don't use, it adjusted. I added my communities, done in seconds. That's the difference. You're not learning someone else's system. You're building your own that understands your business better than anything you can buy, with an agent that can actually act inside it. If you've been on the fence about Claude Code, this is your sign. It stops being a chatbot the moment you start treating it like an operator. This is just the start of what I'm personalising. I'm going to record a full walkthrough showing exactly how I built it, step by step, and I'll drop it here when it's ready. Happy to answer anything in the comments.

@Max Znk Thanks Max, glad you're on the same path. There's nothing like having it all under one roof instead of jumping between tools.

@Leela Krishna Thanks Leela! Yep, all done through Claude Code. That's what operates it. I've just layered on skills and instructions so it knows how my businesses run and can actually do the work, not just talk about it.
VS Code or Desktop App?
Nate likes to always work in VS Code. What advantage would that have over using the desktop app? I learned in VS Code, and yes, it's a great learning experience, but once the desktop app came along it's so much cleaner. I guess my main advantage in the desktop app is that you can rename a chat and chats are organized under projects. When using VS Code you can't rename the chats or organize them at all really. What are the advantages of sticking with VS Code even after the desktop app came out? (Note, I use Codex but pretty much the same as Claude in VS Code and desktop versions I think.)

@Joel England I completely agree, Joel. I think the future is less about finding one perfect AI tool and more about knowing which tool to use at the right moment. For me, planning, strategy, and brainstorming work best in the desktop apps, while VS Code really shines when it comes to actual development. Having access to Git, terminals, extensions, and especially the ability to review diffs before accepting changes makes a huge difference. Being able to run multiple agents while working directly in your development environment is a game changer. What's exciting is that we're all still learning and figuring out the best workflows. Watching how others structure projects, use agents, and solve problems is valuable in itself. AI is definitely here to stay, and the more we understand how to work alongside these tools, the more productive and effective we'll become. Great insights, and thanks for sharing your perspective.

Great video. Automation has become a huge part of my journey with n8n and GoHighLevel. 🚀New Video: Claude Code + Paperclip Just Destroyed OpenClaw
In this video I walk through Paperclip, a free open-source tool that lets you build and run an entire company with AI agents. I set up a brand new company from scratch, show how the CEO agent hires engineers and delegates tasks, and break down how heartbeats, skills, routines, and budgets all work together. Whether you want to start a fully AI-run company or just automate a piece of your existing business, this covers everything you need to get going.
