"Am I leaving money on the table, or undercutting?" 💸
Saw this in the group this week. Most guys answer it by checking what the other guy charges. That's backwards. Start with your own numbers. Say you want $2,000 a week. Half of that goes on running costs. Fuel, maintenance, tax, and gear. So you take home $1,000. $2,000 over a 40-hour week is $50 an hour. But you won't mow 40 hours. There's driving, quoting, fuelling up, changing blades, and fixing stuff. You'll be lucky to get 6.5 hours of actual mowing in a day. So you need $60 an hour just to hit the number. That's why I would recommend that you quote at least $1 a minute. 🕐 Guess the time, then multiply. 30 minutes lawn = $30. Then add hills, trees, catching, and mess. ⏱️ Time the first mow. If it keeps taking longer than you quoted, put the price up. 🚫 Have a minimum. Mine is $35 for a regular mow and $60 for a one-off. If they say no, you've saved yourself the drive. 🗣️ Say it like you mean it. Give the price, then stop talking. Most people are fine with your price if you are. You're running a business, not a charity. What do you charge per minute? Have you worked it out, or are you going off the guy down the road?

My minimum is 70 for mowing normally about 30-45 mins then up from there mostly aim for 85-100 per hour being my lawns are in a rural area. For landscaping I charge 75 per man hour

Your truck and trailer is free Advertising. I added just 4 vinyl stickers to my pick up that is small but drives home everything that a potential client needs to see to hire me. I had my number on my truck a while back but decided to take it out and just add my website. Why because it takes a lot of the pesky BS clients out. Another reason I’m Solo so I might be out on the mower or doing some other work and I miss the call 9/10 times that customer is going to go back on Google and search another company. With the website they can look it up see how Professional it is and Book a service. Simple and Effective. Here’s a few attached photos

@Stuart Clifford yup probably more like 2/3 lately. Been a little slower this past week but I know these times would come. Grass is slowing down now that it’s going into fall. Need to send out these flyers for leaf clean up/final clean up.
