I'm never 100% sure if some of the posts I see from fitness 'professionals' on line are deliberately just attempts to get attention or whether the lunatics have taken over the asylum. Some wondeful examples this last week: If you can swim sub 2mins for 100m then you are good, ignore swim training and put the time into doing lots of biking and running. Aye great a single hero sub 2 means your race time will be well north of that. Even if you could hold that pace in race conditions it makes you bang average and the fatigue carries into your bike leg. Learn to swim better. If you have 'sinky legs' get a pair of buyancy shorts. Lets not address the why lets just buy a set of crutches. Fair enough as an aid until you improve but the reliance on aids means you never master the skills to improve. You need to do 20-25 hours a week to do an Ironman. Doing hours or volume is a great way to build fitness but only if you match it with good recovery. If you have a job and a family then its rare to be able to put those types of weeks in and have a life. We have multiple race winners who never did more than 15 hours regularly. Copy what the pros do. Or worse this is how I did XYZ follow me for advice. Mate you just did a 15 hour Ironman, gies a break. If you want to do what the pros do, then pack up your job and get a pro ticket. Sure we can learn from the pros - the best thing to learn. Recovery, Sleep, Nutrition, habits not 'here is the secret sesion' that is the magic pill. Follow my secret methodology that no-one else uses. There are no secrets just good solid stuff and well snake oil. Buy this gizmo - it will revoltionise your training/recovery. Yes what we need is more data or maybe what we need is the abilty to learn how things feel. Don't do strength training, its better to do all of your work in discipline. This is appealing as it is hard to fit in but strength and mobility work supports your ability to move well and importantly to keep moving well. Anyone got anymore?

AI is always good for some entertainment if you ask the right questions, like how could I complete my 70.3 race next year in close to 4 hours? Response was, erm .... harsh, but fair: A 4-hour finish time at an IRONMAN 70.3 is an elite, professional-level benchmark that requires averaging roughly a 25-minute swim, a 2:10 bike (approx. 41.5 km/h), and a 1:20 half marathon. Given your 2026 baseline at Challenge Mogán, hitting exactly 4:00 at age 58 is mathematically improbable. However, your successful finish at the brutal Celtman Extreme Triathlon proves you already possess massive structural durability and fat-oxidation efficiency. To bridge the gap and get as close to that target velocity as your physiology allows for IRONMAN 70.3 Vilamoura, you must pivot from an endurance-building focus to a pure speed-at-aerobic-threshold focus.

I was reminded of an old friend the other day when I saw a post on 'wild swimming' or as we know it...swimming. So here are a few definitions for non BS minded folk. Wild swimming = swimming Hybrid training = training Cold water therapy = swimming outside Hyrox = adult PE Espresso = coffee Americano = weak coffee Decaf = dishwater Polarised training = lots of easy shit and some proper hard stuff Anyone got any?

Best Garmin watch at a decent price?
My Garmin 735xt smartwatch has finally given up, with the battery lasting about as long as a Meat Loaf 80’s power ballad. Could anyone out there recommend an alternative model (Garmin or otherwise) that doesn’t break the bank please? Was thinking of buying another 735xt but it’s at least 5y old tech so maybe there’s a better one out there? Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Cheers

You could try contacting Garmin and tell them it’s packed in. I’ve done that a few times and had either an in warranty replacement or got a refurbished newer model at a cheaper rate for a watch that was out of warranty.
