Aw, thank you so much! I'm 100% into the ethos of thos group you've created. It's just what I needed to help me feel connected to nature and get more confident. I am away tomorrow for my first camping trip of the year to Aviemore (Scotland). I've been looking forward to this all year, and i've been preparing for it with lists of kit to pack. Just tonight we have packed up the car, ready to go tomorrow. All the hard work is done, time to enjoy 😁

I'm a day late but i'll join in anyway. I'll definitely been feeling a lot of 'meh' and pushing through my workload without motivation or satisfaction. I think i just feel so busy in lots of aspect in life, and running on low batteries. Today, I picked up a hire car and was nervous to drive a car thats totally different to my own, and it actually went fine! Tomorrow, I will not rush around or push myself. It's time to wind now and get ready for holiday mode. My 4 day camping trip to Aviemore is this weekend 😊
Wellbeing Walks
All of us have an innate need to spend time outdoors, so why do we fight it? Why do we talk ourselves into staying in our wee cosy houses with all our home comforts? Because it's easy. We've become so accustomed to the 'easy' way of living that anything hard or requiring a bit more effort than the norm, we have have to work harder to get ourselves to do. This is in part, due to the amygdala - the part of our brain that holds our threat response. Anything that triggers potential threat e.g. fear of failure, fear of over exertion, fear of injury etc. it boosts our anxiety & cortisol and puts us off. Yet, we find peace in wooded areas, it's a familiar environment to use, our brains thrive from the cleaner oxygen, the fractal patterns we see and the gentle exercise we get. This is just a gentle reminder, to challenge that part of our brain that wants to keep us soft, unresilient and hidden away in our houses. Explore local, explore further afield, find comfort in the outdoors and heaven forbid you actually train the brain to be okay with this in the process. Get up, get out, GO WILD 🌿 ~Step Outside, to Reset Inside~

I have felt this reluctance hundreds of times! My husband is confused by me as I describe myself as outdoorsy yet find excuses not to go for a walk! Thank you for explaining this. This makes me feel better about it and new reason to resist the resistance!

@Lisa O'Brien thank you! Yes it was definitely a case of getting comfortable with not pushing through, and no shame in not completing the full route. I quite enjoyed my rest next to the Loch whole my friends did the summit. I did some outdoor meditation listening to nature sounds and admiring the view. I was very content.

Let's make this one fun! Share a photo or story from a humbling experience outdoors. We all have them and it's good to reflect and revisit at times. I'll start in the comments πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

@Lisa O'Brien wow, well done on bouncing back, learning lessons and knowing you just got very unlucky! Every good outdoor leader will have experiences like these. No one get its perfect every time. X
