What tune gives you the most difficulty?
For me it’s anything based on those Coltrane changes like countdown or Giant Steps. I find I can play over it if I’m reading it but I forget the changes really easily. If I play it with anyone in a gig or jam setting, it always ends up a car crash on my part How about you?

Remembering chord changes in the more harmonically complex tunes, rather than going off the melody/my ears! Here's a question, if you use the chord sheet ti train your ears to hear the sounds of the changes and important note tines within them, does it matter if you can't remember the chord names....
“How” or “what”
A question for you today. As jazz violinists, when you practice, do you mainly work on “how” you execute your notes or “what” notes you play?

I'm quite good at theoretically making plans for what and how, coming from a verystrict, technique focused, classical background, amd being a teacher, BUT, my problem is consistently sticking to them!!
Matts Enclosures Book
I decided to go back to some basics this week. I have been practising lick 1g, chapter one in Matts book, as a warm up exercise in12 keys. In then decided that I needed to apply it to a tune, with my own variations arising out of it. So here it is on Daphne!

@Viktor Houf ah thankyou. Too much vibrato tho!

@Matt Holborn I was also needing to elongate it, as its over quicker chord changes than in alot of the tunes, where there's a whole bar for each chord rather than 2 beats.
Cool Jazz Violin Video
Hope you enjoy this jazzified Mendelssohn! If you haven't heard of Nora Germain, she is a fantastic jazz violinist and the very first one I came across many years ago after discovering Stephane Grappelli. I've seen her perform live a few times. https://youtu.be/103yNKHg_Rk?si=fuaXlAoj9hiElzuw Anyway, I'm excited to unlock level 2 and access more of the materials in this community 🎶

I'm struggling with improvising @180 over Jitterbug Waltz in 3 time. Rhythm pattern suggestions would be good!
