Stretching fixes all pain… or does it?
A common belief is that stretching is the answer to all tightness and pain. It's not bad as everyone says but what if I told you that tightness often comes from weakness or poor movement control rather than just short muscles? One of my clients struggled with hip mobility and constantly stretched his hip flexors. The issue? His hip flexors were already overstretched and lacked strength to stabilise the movement. Once we focused on strength through range, he not only improved mobility but also gained control over his movements - allowing him to return to sports like BJJ without discomfort. 🔸 Common mistakes: - Stretching muscles that actually need strengthening - Ignoring movement control (flexibility without strength = instability) - Relying only on passive stretching instead of active mobility work 🔹 What to do instead: - Assess whether your “tight” muscles are weak or restricted (covered tomorrow) - Strengthen in deep ranges instead of just stretching - Focus on mobility + control, not just "loosening up" Anyone else experienced this? Let’s discuss.
