A couple years ago, I met a lady through a group of friends. At the time I was wearing Givenchy EDP Boisée. This seem to have The Effect on her. We talked for a couple weeks, then we dated for a few weeks after, but learned that it simply was not the right time for us. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. I got invited to a speed dating event hosted by a friend of a friend. I've never done one of these before, so in the spirit of trying new things, I accepted. I was told it would start inside a new brewery for an hour, then make its way outside once the speed portion was concluded. I am in central Texas, and it's still too darn hot. The Givenchy is one of my go-to fragrances, but I figured it would be cloying in the heat. I also did not want to wear something that would stand out and mark me as That Cologne Guy. I opted to wear something simple, and that would be Prada's L'Homme L'Eau. It's powdery with a hint of spice; I happen to love the dry down. One spray was all I ever use. It's a small world, and the lady I mentioned earlier happened to be there. We were polite and friendly--no drama. After the event (everyone stayed inside for the air conditioning) I ended up talking to a couple ladies. During the conversation, the lady I had once dated came over to join us. Time passed, and we were hungry. This lady and one other mentioned a steak house around the corner, so the three of us decided to walk over. No, fellas, this is not one of those stories! 😇 We turn a corner, and the other lady made a comment about smelling powder in the air. She said it smelled wonderfully pleasant. She looked around and realized it was coming from me. She leans in, smells, and compliments my fragrance. My friend commented she was aware I was a fragrance guy and leaned in to smell what I was wearing. She frowns and growls, "That is not THE cologne I like!" I laugh, said I almost wore it, but felt it was too hot. She says, "I don't care. You need to get rid of that powder crap immediately!"

This post is going to focus on some deals available at Sam's Club. These are their "published" prices - prices listed on their website, but likely only visible to members. However, I've been by multiple times when they had a fragrance event going on, with even lower prices for in-stock fragrances. That's how I got a really good deal on a bottle of Layton (under $200 for 4.2 oz). Here are some current deals from the Sam's Club website: - Tom Ford Ombre Leather 3.4 oz - $169.00 (FragranceNet $182.69) - Parfums de Marly Layton 4.2 oz - $219.98 (FragranceNet $309.95) - Initio Atomic Rose 3.04 oz - $222.92 (FragranceNet $325.70) Not every fragrance they sell is a great deal, I found several where FragranceNet was cheaper. However, these three are all at or below the best price I could find with a quick Google search.

Trying to touch everything in my collection more often so I used A.I. again with strict direction from me to create this rotation.

For the last two years, I've been steadily increasing the size of my fragrance collection. Even just a month ago, I probably would have jumped at Antonio's House of Dastan discovery set deal. Today, I find myself slightly interested but unable to justify the unnecessary expenditure. I currently have hundreds of samples (mostly miniatures but close to 100 travel-size) and dozens of full-size bottles. The only explanation I have is my most recent full-size bottle purchase: Xerjoff 40 Knots. As it turns out, while I thought I was always searching for the next great fragrance with all my sampling, perhaps the truth is that I was subconsciously searching for one thing in particular: a suitable replacement for Minotaure. It's the fragrance I wore in high school and early in college, even after it was discontinued. Yes, I can still find a bottle here or there, but the quality and performance - either due to age, reformulation, or whatever - is very much lacking. I now have two solid options (at least) to serve as permanent go-to fragrances for every category I could possibly need and a smattering of change-up options that will last for years with sporadic use. Going forward, I'm not sure I'll feel the need to purchase anything in a full-size bottle except for a go-to replacement. I'll hold in reserve the caveat that a new fragrance could appear which I sample and love and, as a result, feel the need to purchase a full bottle.
