Adapters
I've put alot of effort in hiding all cables in my studio. It's great untill you need to move stuff around. I'm too lazy for that so I just buy new wallwart adapters each time 😅 Universal adapters work well though, as long as I don't lose those pesky barrel connectors. 😄

Yeah cable management is a constant pain in the butt. I'm nowhere near hiding my cables as I end up trying a new configuration or moving things around or going to a gig. So, how many new wallwart adapters do you have now? 😆

@Melvin Rijlaarsdam it never is enough, is it? 🤣🤣
What was the first synth you ever owned? #throwbackthursday
I'm curious, what synth did you start out with? Mine was the Waldorf Blofeld which my dad bought for my 16th birthday. I replaced the screen and encoders, but other than that it works perfectly fine to this day.

It's been a while since my first, but I think the first one I had was a Korg Electribe ER-1. I held on to it for quite some time too, but eventually parted ways with it.

@Melvin Rijlaarsdam Yeah I ended up getting the sample version as well, the ES-1. I def learned a lot about sequencing on those and had a blast on them
Performance at Synthcube store in Waltham, MA
Hey all. I thought I'd share my most recent performance at our local synth store. It's a great place for gear as well as performing. We also have monthly meetups where we socialize, perform for a few minutes each, and build community. I feel super lucky that we have this outlet available to us. This performance is experimental/ambient (I really don't know how to classify it, honestly) and employs my modular rig, DFAM, and Digitone 1. Let me know what you think. I usually perform techno, but have been branching out more and exploring different soundscapes. My modular setup here: https://modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/2931564

@Melvin Rijlaarsdam hehehe just a tiny one to get across
Do you use a Mixer in your setup?
I've been using analog mixers in my setups ever since I started with music production. No fancy studer, ssl, or neve consoles, just a box with lots of inputs, outputs, and routing options. I find having every synth, effect, or drum computer accessible by just opening up a fader is such an incredible time saver. The option to sum multiple inputs and record with effects is something I simply can't live without. I just bought a Mackie VLZ4 16 for live performances. There's no time to scroll through menus in a live situation. I need to find my kick drum in a fraction of a second. Actually, building up muscle memory to blindly know where to find each instrument is one of the most important things, in my opinion, for playing live. Dub mixing is also something I'd love to do, just add a delay and reverb on a send, return it to a channel, and create feedback loops. You can do this with any analog mixing desk. Do you use a mixer in your live or studio setup? Why or why not?

I've toyed with the idea of running my modular setup through an analog mixer like this for live use, but my persistent need to pare down my setup and not carry so much gear to gigs overrides this idea. I have an 8 channel Tex Mix mixer in my modular case and it works fine for what it does. It has bleed between channels though, so I'm looking for other solutions. It is great, though, knowing where everything is routed at an instant and that muscle memory makes performing that much more efficient and effective.

@Melvin Rijlaarsdam Ahh thanks for the tip on ST Modular. I'll check out their line of stuff and see if it suits my setup. I've been looking to change how I approach my mixing in the rig, so having more options is always beneficial.
Some questions from a newbie!
Hi al! My name is Tim and started with modular synths this month! I have some questions... 1. How do you tune the VCO's with each other? By ear? By tuner? For example; the ERica Synth Bassline has a very sensitive freq knob. A little touch can make it out of tune. By ear it is quite hard to do. It doesn't sound complete in tune, how hard I try and how close I get. 2. How do you go from one 'song' into another? I know that modular live sets don't work with actual songs and the biggest part is improv, but does someone has tips to evolve more naturally? Would like to here from you all!

I did a presentation on this at a synth meetup. It's centered around using elektron devices and semi-modular, but you might find some useful tips in here https://youtu.be/YpVLFwCWhos?si=baosSx18gHCX3S28 Lately I run modular and a drum machine. I tend to try to structure my sets as DJ sets, since I do techno. There are no defined songs but I have patterns set on a drum machine and then I use the modular and DFAM for voices. So for transitioning to a different pattern AKA song, I will get a sequence going on one of the modular voices or DFAM and then switch over to the next pattern on the drum machine.

@Tim Ekkelboom thanks! I know the audio quality isn't great in some spots so it may be a bit tough to hear. I've got the PP deck from that presentation that I can share as well, if you're that curious.
