Recovering From Sickness
Hey everyone, the past few days I have came down with a gnarly sickness. I am visiting family I swear my niece and nephew will just walk up and cough directly in your face hahaha. Bad news is I am moving pretty slow these days, I bought a ton of meds and am resting up. I think I will be better soon. In the meantime I am moving our weekly call to Sunday (update), apologies for the last minute change. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the call and I will be circling back to everyones DMs today as well. I know by Sunday I will be fully recovered as well as will have some major updates and resources for everyone

@Francisco Piccio Yea man its a great option! the women are very beautiful and so is the weather it has also an american expat community. It also has its flaws too though so its a work in progress, not as affordable as other destinations but still a great option.

Excited to be part of the Community!
Hey everyone! I’m Daniel Ortiz. Just recently joined. Hoping to interact with everyone and here. I am from Los Angeles , California. I’ve worked mostly in Blue collar jobs and Food industry most of my life. My current life goal is trying to figure out how to work remotely and live abroad. I currently have a long time LDR relationship with a Filipina that lives in Philippines. My hope is to move to Philippines and make a stable living to provide a good life for future family. I found remote freedom community from Austin’s TikTok videos. Austin invited me to join after reaching out to him. I was inspired by him to purse the digital nomad lifestyle I hope to achieve one day. Just getting started here and excited to learn the ropes! Hoping to contribute to the community and always open to having a good conversation.

Hey Daniel welcome! I am also originally from Los Angeles, and was also a mechanic for nearly 20 years before i recently started working remotely. Now i work selling medical emergency devices from home. You can also make it out of the blue collar job world. What type of remote work are you looking for?

@Daniel Ortiz Best advice i could give you is get out of the blue collar work sooner rather than later. its very easy to get lazy and complacent because the money can be decent and your spending can get out of hand. but now there are more opportunities that ever before to find remote work. so stay focused on what you want and with hard work and sacrifice you can get there.
1 month in Colombia
I landed in Medellin 3 days ago, tons of outdoor walking and things to do. The language exchanges are a great spot to meet expats. The people I’ve met there just pour free knowledge about work, travel, safety, and other cool hacks. Tomorrow I’ll continue on to Perrera, Cali, Armania, than back to Medellin for most of December. Everything is super cheep outside the tourist areas. and it’s fairly simple to see what areas are safe good people and what areas to stay away from. On my next leg back to Medellin I’ll be staying in Laureles instead of poblato. It’s 20% cheeper in air bb, less tourist and a 5 dollar cab ride back to Poblato where most the tours leave. The culture here enjoys bargains, so even air bb they are willing to make a deal if you ask. I would not buy anything here unless you negotiate all prices first. Let’s see if I have enough energy to finish up my final project next week in my Data analytics course. Haha Feel free to reach out if anyone is in the area or has tips.

I heard those bootcamps can be pricey though, how much is that costing you if you dont mind me asking? also do they help you find a job afterwards?

wow! yea theres no way i could afford that myself rn. I mean if it really gets you the job faster and gets you learning all the necessary skills quickly then its not bad. Are you already good with SQL and Spreadsheets?
Phillipines bound!
It's been a journey so far for me this year and just wanted to share a win. My flight got cancelled going back to the US on Nov 4th from the Philippines due to Typhoon Tino. I was supposed to be back for work that week. I spoke to my manager about working remotely using a VPN to connect to our servers and she agreed to give it a shot. Fast forward to now, I am back in the US. I asked my manager if I can work remotely from the Philippines and she agreed to it finally! My one way ticket back is on 12/8! Yee!!
