Welcome to the November monthly challenge! This month we’re focusing on speaking/writing in Mandarin everyday. Each day I will ask you a question (spoken + written), you need to use my tips to produce an answer to the question (spoken / written). When you’ve prepared your answer, submit it below + I will give you feedback go work on (e.g. grammar, tones, word choice etc.) Question for today: 你明天想做什么？ (What do you want to do tomorrow?) Tips: Replace ‘what’ with the activity/activities you want to do. Change ‘you’ to ‘I’. Extra challenge: Add a reason why e.g. because interesting/fun etc. Add who you want to do the activity with (use ‘and’). Add what time tomorrow (tomorrow + specific time). Are you an office worker?) Tips: Because they are ma questions, you can answer by repeating the verb in the positive or negative form. Or you can repeat the full phrase (changing ‘you’ to ‘I’) and say if you are 是 / aren’t 不是. Extra challenge: If you’re not, can you say what job you do instead using this verb…. Tips: Replace the question word (多大） with the number and 岁 (years old), then change ‘you’ to ‘I’. You don’t need to use your real age if you don’t want to! Question for today: 你喜欢学习中文吗？ (Do you like studying Chinese?) Tips: To answer a question using ma (吗), you can simply repeat the verb in a positive form or negative form e.g. Like / don’t like. Or you can repeat the full sentence, changing ‘you’ to ‘I’ and removing ‘ma ‘. Extra challenge: Try to extend using because (因为) and add why you like studying/ don’t like studying Chinese! Jay Chou 周杰伦 is an absolute legend in the world of Mandarin 普通话 music 音乐。Known for his story-like lyrics, which are very hard to distinguish 很难听得出来 and fast-paced 很快(even for native speakers!) He has also produced slower ballads if that’s your cup of tea! I love 爱 the sound of his songs 歌, even if I struggle to understand the lyrics when listening.
