Let’s Talk Fuel: Performance and Lifestyle.
When you watch our Seoul Q+As, you’ll know that nutrition became a bit of a challenge while we were out there in terms of sticking to our normal fuelling during taper week. We couldn’t find oats anywhere, not even on race day and this is a staple in our diets, but planning ahead so that we were best prepared, we packed our own oats, protein powder, gels and electrolytes just to keep that pre-race routine as consistent as we could. Now, you guys know that when you travel or go on holiday, you want to enjoy yourselves. With a race at the end of it, we still had to be smart with our food choices all week, but we also made sure to enjoy what Korea had to offer (Korean BBQs are fantastic, and if you love a sweet treat, they have SO much out there). And that balance is exactly what I want to talk about today. I think a lot of people think that nutrition is about having to be perfect and super clean; chicken and broccoli being the obvious go to thought for most. But really we all just need to be aware. One of the biggest takeaways from the Seoul trip was how many athletes still find fuelling confusing. Not just for training, but for life. We’ll smash our workouts, hit every run, and grind through the sessions, but then wonder why we’re tired, flat, or constantly chasing energy. Fuel for performance isn’t the same as fuel for living. Performance nutrition is intentional. It's about timing, recovery, output, and fuelling the machine. Lifestyle nutrition is balance. Eating for health, joy, hormones, mood, and longevity. The sweet spot is learning how to live in both. When you start eating for your goals instead of against them, everything shifts. You train better. You recover faster. You think clearer. And maybe most importantly, you stop over analysing every time you eat. That’s the point I reached after years of getting it wrong. And it’s what we coach here at Hybrid Endurance Coach. We don’t do restriction. We do awareness. We do habits that fit real lives.
