Most of ancient Britain was ruled from Rome for hundreds of years, no doubt resulting in some migration there. Following that, there´s been voluntary English migration to Italy since well before the Norman conquest. The "Borgo Sassone" takes its name from the suburb in Rome they established. Some Scottish Jacobites including ancestors of mine fled to Italy.
