Young Rose Seedling Blooming
This is a rose seedling that I grafted onto a more mature rose. It unfortunately is not a strong grower, has no scent, and has thin stems. I only keep it because the color is amazing and the foliage has a mild, unique pine scent. It is a second generation offspring of these two roses: Tuscany Superb https://helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=21.421950 Olympiad https://helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=21.443395 It’s a rich fuschia color with the outer petals fading to a violet-pink

@Amy Locks most modern Roses descend from a few select roses from China hybridized with various other species. It’s most common for modern roses to have a sweet peppery scent. the pine scent from this one comes from its grandmother, Tuscany Superb, which is descended from the species “rosa Gallica” pictured below You can see the density of scent glands throughout the plant

@Amy Locks yes. Hardiness is generally around the parents’ hardiness. Increasing cold hardiness, you’d hybridize using a cold hardy parent. It’s helpful to know what traits a rose passes on. For example, a cold hardy rose that passes cold-hardiness easily to its offspring would be very useful if it’s one of your goals
🌿 Hey Plant’d Fam 🌿
I’m super excited to join this amazing community of fellow plant lovers! I’ve been diving deeper into the world of greenery lately from nurturing my leafy buddies to experimenting with new propagation tricks and setups. 🌱✨ I love connecting with people who share the same passion for plants, growth (in every sense!), and a little bit of dirt under the nails. 😄 I’m here to learn, share, and maybe swap a few plant stories (and plant fails we’ve all had them, right?). Can’t wait to soak up all the inspiration, tips, and good vibes from everyone here. 💚 What’s one plant you’re currently obsessed with right now?

@Amy Locks yes it’s a delightful process. I’m going for very fragrant ones but hybridizing with striped roses is the most exciting
