Building a Yemeni Coffee Business in Europe – Introduction & Questions
Hi everyone! My name is Adel. I’m originally from Yemen, a country famous for producing some of the finest and highest-quality Arabica coffee in the world. Yemeni coffee has a long history and a very unique flavor that I’m proud of. Currently, I live in Belgium, and I’m very interested in building something in the coffee industry. Right now, I’m looking for importers of Yemeni coffee so we can potentially collaborate and become partners. If I don’t find the right opportunity, I’m planning to start my own small business focused on authentic Arabic coffee here in Europe, especially in Belgium. I also have a few questions I hope to learn more about in this course: - Is it allowed to roast coffee beans inside a café in Europe so customers can enjoy the aroma? - What are the legal requirements or restrictions for roasting coffee in a coffee shop in Belgium? - Can I serve coffee as a drink and also sell roasted beans and freshly ground coffee in the same shop? I’m excited to learn from this course and connect with like-minded people. Thank you!

@Rose Fisher Thank you so much Rose for your kind and encouraging words, I truly appreciate it. I’m really passionate about bringing authentic Yemeni coffee to Belgium and sharing its rich heritage and story with people here. Your advice is very helpful, especially regarding the legal aspects and contacting FASFC — I’ll definitely make sure to look into that carefully before moving forward. I also love your point about the story being part of the marketing. That’s exactly what I hope to do: not just sell coffee, but create an experience that reflects the culture and tradition behind it. Thanks again for your support — it really means a lot.

@Rose Fisher Thank you Rose, I appreciate your message. And just to clarify, my name is Adel. Right now I’m in the early stage, exploring opportunities to import Yemeni coffee and possibly start a small business in Belgium focused on authentic Arabic coffee. My goal is to build something that combines quality, culture, and experience. I’d be happy to hear more about what you do and how you help people build their systems.

@Juan Rosenzweig Thank you, Juan! I would like to learn more about the coffee business in Europe, especially the regulations. For example, is it allowed to roast coffee beans inside a coffee shop so customers can enjoy the fresh aroma? Are there any legal restrictions or special requirements? Also, I’m interested in offering different options: serving coffee as a drink, and selling roasted beans as well as freshly ground coffee based on the customer’s preference. I would like to understand if there are any rules or licenses needed for this kind of business model.
