@Cheg Darlington I'm so happy right now because I've found the right place. I understand exactly what you're saying. I try to go from giving him a lot of food to giving him very little. At first, I give him a lot of food for every good approach or when Helmi thinks in the right direction, but over time I ask more of him before he gets food. When it comes to situations where he becomes uncertain, I do the same thing. For example, we have a pasture that is not within sight of the stable. When the herd was there and I wanted to take Helmi to the stable, he broke free and ran back. I also stopped this with food. I let him walk freely beside me toward the stable until he slowed down and didn't want to go any further. Then we just stood there and he got food. After a while, I asked if he could come a few more steps with me. If he could, he got food. If not, I asked if he could stand at the first stopping point. Now it's no longer an issue at all. I stand at the stable and call him, and he usually comes. There's always something tasty waiting for him. How do you handle the food? I'm very interested in that.

@Reiki Ranch That's so sweet of you. I've decided that I'm going to post videos and mishaps here I believe that's also an important part of a community these days. Social media often shows us a beautiful, perfect world, but that's not how it is. These platforms and groups are often toxic and not friendly places. I know I still have a lot to learn, I know I make mistakes, and that's totally okay. I don't need to be ashamed of that or hide it. Here, I feel safe to talk openly about it and ask questions.
Working on leadchanges and transion to trott
We are working on leadchanges and transion to trott. At the moment I can't get him into trott when he is next to me. Any advises how I can approach this? He is also a little rude with his head towards the food during changes. What do you think is more important, waiting until he is polite or rewarding the change?

@Reiki Ranch That's so true. Helmi teaches me so much more than I teach him.

@Zoë Coade I just went through the checklists and they are really helping me to set my priorities and focus. There are also some points that I hadn't thought of at all until now.
