I'm a relapsed chillaholic. I think I'm giving up on recovery for that condition for the next few months. That is to say, I'll be chilling this weekend, for sure. I engaged in some medical tourism today, while I'm near the AZ-MX border. Got me a pair of modestly-priced fillings in my molars. Los Algodones: recommended Otherwise, still resting the foot. The swelling is down, and I can stand still alright, but hobbling hurts. You cooking?

@Jake Hill Last Friday evening, after some good jump rope warmup, I was in the zone and tried skipping my flow rope, instead of just throwing some hops in with the spins. I landed on it, the tread of my shoe gripped it, and the rope rolled like a wheel, and it slipped my ankle over for me to put all my weight down through the corner of the blade of my left foot. I have some dit da jow to help but that's all, other than Sifu's advice. I'm hoping a month is long enough... Fasting! And again, you remind me of the basics. I had the habit for a year or so, of alternating between feasting and fasting every Tuesday. Once I got the hang of it, I came to prefer a three-week cycle: a Tuesday feast, a regular week, then fasting all Monday and Tuesday. That felt pretty great. I gotta get back to it. A timely reminder as well, since I'm low on both fodder and funds!
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!
For some people it is a day of rest. For others it's a day to prepare. Some go to church or something similar. Others go for fun or football. How do you like to spend your Sundays? What are you up to today?

Resting the foot. Streaming Firefly for the wife's first viewing. Dreaming, scheming.
Practice Makes Progress⚡️
Just a few minutes can add up over time. Incremental becomes exponential.💯 Make a little time for yourself and your health. Do you have a little time to play today?🤔

"Incremental becomes exponential." Wow, @Jake Hill , that's the second stark aphorism you've given me, this week! Einstein called compound interest, the eighth wonder of the world.
Birth of the Dragon
This is a really fun movie, inspired by Bruce Lee's early time in the US. I love this moment in the final fight, when Wong Jack Man is sizing Lee up, learning his moves. The whole scene is great, but I love how the monk's thought process is portrayed. I tried to skip to 1:39, right before you get to see how he mentally defines Lee's technique, noticing Lee's self-restriction. This scene is supposed to portray Lee, realizing how 'style' can prevent expressing full potential, past a certain point in practice, versus pedagogical structure. This signifies the beginning of Lee developing Jeet Kun Do. I'm not at that level of development, but it's good to think about 'the art.' We're all pretty much stuck with the instrument we're born into. If martial arts is one of the many ways we use our body to express our internal condition, then the different disciplines within are like different genres. Some people focus on just one, getting to know seminal artists and defining techniques of expression, say weaves in the textile arts and their cultural associations. The greats are those who know, not only the best technique for a moment from their repertoire. They've practiced the basics for so many repetitions that it's a part of them. They know also, that their training was intended for certain scenarios, perhaps as many as possible, yet life includes more than any curriculum. In expression, they apply fundamental principles in novel ways to construct simple things that defy genre. You learn your equipment. You hone your craft. You compile and refine technique, recognizing that the present defines priority and therefore supercedes preparation. You blend into the moment, one component operating in synchrony with the situation. At the speed of life, be water.
Short form feedback
Howdy all, I hope everybody celebrating the holiday is enjoying it how they'd rather, and that everybody else is enjoying it, anyway. I practice tiger-crane gongfu and Sifu says I'm rigid, which I can feel. I decided for myself to find some flowing form I can meditate with, which I imagine is helping me a lot, already. I don't have a coach for taichi, so I figured that I could start with a short form. That way, if I do it poorly, I'll have fewer opportunities to make mistakes. I found Shoreline Taichi's Steelyard 27, which is Yang style in tradition but not in arrangement. I really appreciate the philosophy on their website, motivating its composition. Here's their 'official' recording. I'm learning it sinistral, and I have a little Confucian diatribe to explain why. The upshot is that I get to mirror it for my wife, so she can learn it with me and we help each other. She's more tagging along, and doesn't want notes as much as I do. Some of the motions seem awkward to me, and I intentionally finessed some movement a little differently, using tips from what seems to be the definitive @yangfamilytaichi channel on YouTube. I'm attaching a video of us giving it a morning run-through. It's pretty clear that the incline affected my performance. Please, point out all the issues you have time to tell me about. I'm very open to suggestions for drills and such. Much obliged 🖖

@Jake Hill Thanks! I'm beyond lucky to have her as my mirror. I downloaded all three videos. Ha, I just sprained the hell out of the blade of my foot on a knuckle in a pinkie toe, so this is a great reminder for zhan zhuang—that's actually a gospel I've spread to folks in a few states, now. I send people to standstillbefit from Lam Kam Chuen. I'll try the Taoist video you linked in the morning, if I can manage to weight my bubbling spring. Oh, man... I've read about the eight energies and soong but CLEARLY don't 'get it.' Admittedly, that was not in my mind during the recording. I mostly tried to imitate the movements I've seen on YouTube, exactly like your Learn By Doing post indicates. Thanks for the encouraging words, posts, and links. I'm in for it.
