Love that! Great playing 🙂
Post your progress!
Make a cell phone video of a song you’ve been practicing or of you playing something. Anything! Just as long as you are playing the guitar in the video. Everyone that posts a progress video wins. (Your prize is the glory of being a winner.) Everyone who doesn’t win … looses. I’ll go first.

This post is about preparation and a funeral. . . I am in Houston Texas for my Grammys funeral. She was 92 and was an amazing women and I am super excited to be able to attend her funeral. This post is about preparation. When I typically prepare a song, or a song service at church or a weekend fair 30 minute set, I like to take between 10 and 45 minutes of preparation for each song. That may sound like a lot to you, or it may sound like a little tiny bit of preparation. I’ve also played music for over 120 funerals. So I have a bit of a routine. Tonight I landed after a long day of delays and travel all the way from Alaska to sit with my family and have some family time, fully expecting to be in attendance at this funeral because nothing was communicated to me about the service, and not be playing the music for the service. Well, I was asked to perform 5 songs. All of which I have never played before…. In 15 hours from the time this is posted…. And I haven’t slept…. So what do you do when you are asked to play new songs last minute? (That’s the reason for this post) I am honored to be asked to sing and play at my grandmas funeral. Off course I said “Wow! Yes!” The question remains; What do you do when you know you can’t get enough practice in to do a good job? I’ll post what I’m doing to prepare in the morning. What do YOU do?

Hi Jonathan, my condolences 🙏 if I get asked to learn or perform a song last minute and I am short on time or tired I will listen to the piece, make notes of the structure/chords to get familiar. I would also try not to compare myself to the original artist/piece as perfectionism can delay progress. At the end of the day music is expression and there is nothing wrong with putting your own take/spin on it is feel
Background music to YouTube videos
For the YouTubers here — do you care much about the uniqueness of your background music, or do you just grab something that works and move on? Ever thought about having something made just for your channel to make it even more unique?

@Phil Smith sure - https://youtube.com/shorts/S1J-ahzQSC8?si=xF_srvr70LkmVc-U (the backing music is all my own recording) I also have another YouTube Channel which is for cooking gluten free and i record more subtle background music. Here is an example of one - https://youtu.be/ZnDoZUQzF1w?si=EfYypuBMHLzU3Q7s

@Jonathan Redfearn yes an intro could be cool. For my YouTube channel my videos are usually under 4 minutes and I would introduce the content and then have a very short jingle before returning to the video.
