Surgery
Everything went well, there was more damage than the MRI showed. Cleaned up a bone spur in the shoulder and also a tear in my bicep. Dr. Reineck told my wife he had to be a little more aggressive with the repair, but if I follow his advice I will be bow hunting come October!🔥🏹 Thank y’all for your prayers and well wishes, I greatly appreciate it!

👋 Hey Guys!...Let's Take The Time To Introduce Ourselves...
My name is Jenn Richardson, my husband, Grant Richardson and I created this group, TradBowhunter - Ethical Predator. We are from Ontario, Canada, I have had a love for the outdoors since I was little. My grandfather being a conservation officer in the United States and my other grandfather a trapper here in Ontario. I have been in Law Enforcement for over 26yrs, love the outdoors, marketing and business so decided to put all three together! This is a passion piece for Grant and I...My hubby being the subject matter expert with Traditional Bowhunting as well as an author, podcast host and 3rd generation traditional bowhunter. We wanted to bring like minded people together and create a place to share their experiences with traditional bowhunting. ----------------- Hey folks! Grant Richardson here - about myself... I was raised in a hunting family. I have Bowhunted with traditional gear all my life and started shooting bows when I was 3. I've been able to hunt all over North America and along the way this past 40 plus years hunting with trad gear I have learned that success is born not from tech or the latest camo but from long cold days in the woods and often- failure. Bows and arrows were always a part of my life and I was lucky to have an upbringing that emphasized time in the woods. I was able to see both the rise of Bowhunting in Ontario and the laws and regulations based on ethics & conservation formed- But - also to see them fall apart to an Industry that focused on the latest and newest tech or gadgets to bring wild game home and not the skillsets I was raised to respect and follow. The very fabric of those primitive weapon/Bowhunting seasons was based on the fact that it was harder to take game with a bow and arrow- simply that it was difficult- but there is the truth that many forgot or perhaps never learned. The Ethical Predator was created from those lessons learned all my life. I helped create this community seeing a need to bring folks from all over the world into a community that supported the old ways, from scouting, tracking & the heritage of Bowhunting I grew up with.

@Chris Reddy Welcome Chris!
Legacy
I recently got into a polite discussion with a gentleman who was concerned that his daughter wasn’t gonna be good enough to kill an animal hunting with a traditional bow. His idea was to get her on game quickly and get her killing something as fast as possible so she can connect and he felt that the connection would happen if she put an animal or a bird or anything down on the ground then she would understand why she was out there- I argued the point with him and I said well- how are you gonna go about that? and he said well I’m gonna get her to use a crossbow - so my own opinion of that weapon and it’s use in archery seasons aside. - It’s easier” he responded. I said to him afterwards, when he was done arguing his points -what is the end state of your hunt if you’re hunting to always be successful in your mind? Is that success is solely based on bringing game home every time? -I don’t know how you’re gonna keep their attention because it simply won’t happen no matter what weapon system you use. “Success” that is- The other issue with that is is the difficulty of the platform and I said by design a crossbow just simply much much easier to take game with than a hand drawn bow, including a compound bow, and his fear of success was inhibiting an entire process that was being left behind quick success I said- will not often bring and appreciation for process - legacy- Legacy is what we (Jennifer) and I built the ethical predator around the heritage and legacy of actually hunting and using a weapon system that requires commitment, patience, and knowledge of woodman ship -animal behaviour- environment, ecosystem connection -right down to the practice f shooting and of sharpening one’s own broadheads, so they’re lethal enough to kill humanely. I wanted to bring to people a method and a way of doing something that wasn’t easy because it took time patience and practice. 🎯 It became something more than a hobby or a novelty thing and that’s the problem. I saw traditional bow hunting going down the road of novelty -“oh that’s fanciful” “that’s kind of cool” but it’s just too hard…a “struggle stick”

@Lance Martin yeah I completely agree with you. 100%. I think one of the big problems were up against these days. Is that whole thing on that success matters over everything else and I and I think that’s a huge discouragement to you know the whole process. I also think there’s a big rush in the industry these days to get kids onto big game very very quickly and I think that’s a failure right one of the biggest fears regardless of weapon systems is that you know unless you’re putting down a “booner” you’re nothing - right you know that whole trophy versus a meat animal is kind of gross in my opinion. All that being sad this is one of the reasons why I’m such a big advocate of small game hunting for kids you know just it’s the interaction that’s there more so than success. 😉

New Bow Day
Picked up a beauty that is barely used. It is Hill Country “Wildcat”. The cool thing is Hill Country Bows is an Amish bowyer (Roman) that lives 7 minutes from my house. I fell in love when I saw it and then I shot it. It is so smooth, fast and QUIET!!! I took it over the bowyer and he remember it and said it was the only one he put that stripe in the riser.
