Here we go again - 🐾
My wife and son brought our youngest dog (4)to the vet today because she hasn’t been eating for the last several days she’d nibble but then stopped that. She’s been drinking water. Anyways, they just took her to the vet. The vet said she looked jaundice and then after asking a bunch of questions sent them to the emergency clinic down at University of Florida. So my wife and son are there right now. And we don’t know what the status is as of yet. I hope it’s not like the last time. 😒. Oslo’s liver was β€œangry” with inflammation, which is how he died. The doctor was wondering why now a second dog has liver issues. Vet asked if they got into anything, but if so, we have no idea what because we haven’t done anything different for the last several years. Had a pool for several years. Had same chemicals around and out of access. No idea how or why, but that’s where we’re at. I’m hoping we don’t have to do this again. Last month was hard enough. This is my AuDHD son’s dog.

I told my dad, "No."
πŸ“… Daily Check-in - July 8, 2026 πŸ’ Reflection: "I forgot to do my check in this morning, again. Imagine that. lol So, I'll give an update as of now, which is 5:15pm. I went and had physical therapy with my back. We are going out of town tomorrow until Monday, so in panic mode as we try to get everything packed, and prepared. I tried getting us started yesterday so that we don't always have the last minute rush. All I can say is I tried. lol I think My wife and son have their clothes together. I have everything except which shirt and which ties my wife wants me to wear so I can pick out my socks. LOL A small win for me today was I said "no" to my dad. He asked yesterday if he could come by today to do laundry. I said yes, 10:30 will be perfect. He agreed. Backstory (Jim's Twin has it all, so how I handled was proper). Anyways, at 11:35 he calls me and asks if he can come over and do his laundry. I said, "No. We agreed on 10:30. It's after 11:30 and now it's being used". He said he was sleeping. I didn't really say much back. We said our goodbyes and that was that. About an hour or two ago, my brother tried calling me. He only calls me when he needs something, or is looking for dad. He was probably calling to chew me out for not letting dad do his laundry. There is a laundromat down the street if he needs it that bad and can't wait until next week. We had agreed months back, 10:30am on Thursday. He'd call at 1:00 and ask if he could come do his laundry and I begrudgingly said yes. Basically, I didn't want my wife to come home and her father in law be in the house. When I was not self employed, After working all day, I'd come home and her parents were either in our house, knocking on our door, or calling as soon as I'd walk in the door. So I understand how she would feel. Anyways, my small win is I said, "no". Jim's Twin said to me, "Shawn, you said no. To your dad. After he blew past the time you set. That's the exact muscle we talked about in The Bridge, the one that scares you. And you did it. "

That's a great win for you, and not a small one! I had to do this with my own brother recently and he was mad at me for weeks. I told him to go to the laundromat like everyone else has to and it was hard! I did it because my husband didn't understand why a grown man is coming to his house to do his laundry lol The story is much deeper of course but I understand how hard that is.

Little things can be painful
I have been going crazy all day, trying to get a splinter out of my finger. It started yesterday when I was trying to cut fibreglass mesh to make screens for the windows to stop insects coming into the house. Here in the UK we are not used to hot weather, cold weather, rain, snow, well pretty much anything can bring the country to a standstill! We once had the trains come to a stop as there were β€œleaves on the line”, I am not joking. So I couldn’t find anything suitable to buy ready made that didn’t cost a fortune to stop the insects so I thought I could do it myself. It took a whole day, some antiseptic spray, TCP, plasters (band aid @Shawn Bailey) etc and then at 10.45pm I saw what was causing my pain. I got some tweezers and pulled and was shocked that a tiny piece of fibreglass was the culprit. To me it was huge… so I took a photo with a ruler. It was about 4.5mm…. What a relief it’s out!

Curiosity doesn’t always kill the cat
If you could borrow one ADHD-friendly habit from another person in this group, what would it be? Maybe it’s consistency. Maybe it’s organization. Maybe it’s exercise. Maybe it’s remembering where they put their keys. What would you choose? For me it would be organization and exercise. I’m not good at either of them.

Consistency for sure

Dopamine detox group challenge? πŸ‘€
Yesterday during the Cohort 3 Q&A we had a fascinating discussion about dopamine, procrastination, sleep, focus, social media, Netflix binges, gaming, and why we sometimes struggle to do the things we actually want to do. Multiple members shared that when they reduce the constant stimulation for a few days, they: - Sleep better - Feel calmer - Focus easier - Stop procrastinating as much - Feel more connected to themselves So I'm considering organizing a 3-Day Dopamine Detox Challenge for the ADHD Harmony community. We'd check in together each day and share wins, struggles, insights, and what changes when the noise disappears. I'm curious... Who would actually join? Let me know in the comments. What would be the hardest thing for you to give up for 3 days? πŸ˜…

@Erron Z. L. Callahan what is reversed cortisol? Do you mean that you will be up for 9 days?

@Karina Von Tryll I know you asked this a week ago lol but I think you'd have to start with what's reasonable and doable. Pick one or two to start with then see how that goes. I did the challenge and did pretty well imo but I still stumbled with phone before bed and a few other things. But a few other things kinda stuck with me.
