🌟 Happy Friday, team — let's finish the week strong! Today is all about the screens we can't put down. 📱
Describe a website or app you use often. You should say: - what it is - how often you use it - what you use it for - and explain why you find it useful. You have 1 minute to prepare and make notes, then talk for 2 minutes. Band 6 snippet: "The app I use most is a maps app. I use it every day to find places. It's good because it shows me the fastest way and I don't get lost. I think it saves me a lot of time." Band 8 upgrade: "The app I rely on most is a navigation app, which has become absolutely indispensable in my daily routine. I turn to it constantly to plan routes and avoid traffic jams. What makes it so valuable is that it spares me the hassle of getting lost in unfamiliar areas." - indispensable = something you can't manage without (stronger than "good") - turn to = a natural phrasal verb meaning "rely on/use" - spares me the hassle = saves me from an annoying difficulty 🎙️ Record yourself for 2 minutes and post your answer in the comments — I'll give feedback! ✍️ WRITING TASK OF THE DAY (Task 2 — Opinion) "Some people believe smartphones have made our lives easier, while others think they have created new problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion." Skeleton outline: - Intro: paraphrase the topic + state your opinion - Body 1: benefits (instant communication, access to information) - Body 2: drawbacks (distraction, reduced face-to-face contact) - Conclusion: restate your view clearly 📌 Examiner tip: In "discuss both views" essays, you MUST cover both sides fairly before giving your opinion. Answering only one side caps your Task Response score! 🎯 Easier goal: Write just the introduction (2 sentences).🚀 Full goal: Write the complete 250-word essay. 📖 READING TIP OF THE DAY — Watch the paraphrase trap Answers almost never use the same words as the passage. Scan for the idea, not the exact word. Mini-passage: "The city council introduced a scheme to reduce private car use in the centre. Free buses were offered during peak hours. Within a year, traffic congestion had noticeably eased."
