The trees swayed in the distance, which echoed a rustling sound in the air. There was a chill in the air as the moon shone on the rippling lake. Little Emily, practicing her spells, hair flowing to the cadence of the wind, took a deep, centering breath. She whispered, " Rana haec in papilionem mutetur " with a small flourish of her wand. Out of the water came this beautiful, colorful butterfly, glistening from the droplets of water falling of her wings. "Magical" Little Emily took a deep breath and smiled, her eyes beaming with pride. Yes!! I do have the gift. I have to remember what mother said, with the gift comes great responsibility. She repeated the spell again, just as she was nearing the finish, she heard a branch snap behind her. Startled she turned around just as the last word fell from her lips. Wand pointed in the direction of the noise. In the brief moment before the person who had been coming towards her became a butterfly, she glisped it was her best friend Jacob. "Oh no" she gasped.... Jacob fluttered around Emily swirling all over the sky since he was unaccustomed to flying. Emily's heart began to quicken and she was able to catch Jacob within her hands and she scurried back to her wooden cabin. She knew her mother was still asleep, but crept quietly to her room anyhow. From under her bed, she pulled a sort, wide cage full of butterflies. This wasn't her first miss direction but this was a very important one, it was the first time it was a person and more importantly, because it wasn't just any person but her best friend. "Didn't worry Jacob, I will figure this out and get you back to normal before it's to late" she whispered as she watched the cage of butterflies.
