@Alejandra Rodriguez Greetings and welcome to the community!!! Check in daily. There is a lot of good information available from newbies and veterans. Set aside a few minutes daily to read the comments from questions being asked. It's a great way to pick up little gems of information and advice. It’s kind of amazing seeing people from all around the world jump into this platform. Just imagine all of the connections that can be made. The best thing I can tell you is to learn the language. Trucking has its own language/terms. You won't have any idea what carriers and brokers are talking about without knowing all of the acronyms and what they mean.
What is dispatching?
I know that if you have not been in a situation you desperately need help from an experienced dispatcher to work with you and support you. Or you have been in a bad situation dealing with bad dispatcher who have no clue about dispatching, it is difficult to really appreciate what dispatching is all about. Most people focus on the money they want to make but not the work they must do to make the money. With the way things are going now, the broker can now be held liable for any load they give a carrier whose CSA score is below acceptable standard. That means that picking loads from load boards is pretty much going to be a waste of your time for most dispatchers. Dispatching requires high level of knowledge about the carrier and his equipment, the driver, the type of freight and route planning to make the carrier’s trucking business profitable. There are many more things you must know to help your carrier that if you have no experience in the industry or have not been on the road yourself cannot automatically know what you do not know that you need to learn to be a good dispatcher. Bottom line, it takes time to become a good dispatcher if you have never been a driver or ever had an experience with a bad dispatcher. Needless to say that there many bad dispatcher out there willing to charge 2% just to make a dime and leave you stuck in the middle of nowhere without a load on a Friday afternoon before a long holiday weekend in Fort Meyers FL.

@Louis Cruz That's the attitude you need to be successful.
Negotiating a load
Well, I did it! I negotiated a load, not one time, but twice! Yes, I said twice. I negotiated it when I first booked it, but it was only for an extra $200. Then, when my driver sent me the pictures and I saw it took up most of the trailer, I had him measure it. The ratecon and the broker said it's on 15ft its a partial load. It measures 20 ft 5 in. I called them and then also sent an email with picture confirmation of the measurements and asked for another $500, since we cannot pick up another partial load with our 30ft mega ramp trailer. Most places do not like you to use the 5ft mega ramps to load on. They accepted my negotiation email. I couldn't believe it when the broker told me they could only do an extra $200 the first time. 🤑

@Melissa Campbell I just commented on a post about drivers paying attention when being loaded. Folks are always trying to pull a fast one. Congrats to you for fighting for your driver. LOVE THIS!!!
