Building your business
For those of you now running your own player development business, what did your path look like? Did you gain experience working under a school, a team, or a training facility? Or did you jump straight into building your own client base? I’d love to hear what worked for you and any lessons from that journey.

When I started out I was coaching under a local travel team. A parent asked me if I did 1:1 training, I responded yes even though I’ve never trained anyone before. I was currently playing college basketball at the moment so I used a lot of the drills that I did myself. I only had 1 client for the first few months but over time, all of my players on the team got better and results showed on the court game after game which led to me gaining a lot more clients. My advice is whoever you can get your hands on, make them a better player. There’s no better client than your first few where you can have them as test rats and find out who you really are as a trainer.

@Brendan Williams I’ve been coaching HS for the past 4 years so I understand. Winter is a dead period but you can make up for it in the Fall, Spring and Summer if everything is planned out right.
Handle Hustle Day 2 Recap
I just finished Handle Hustle day 2. I worked up a great sweat. It opened my central nervous system up! Stopping on a dime is very important. This drill package is great for that. It's a live pivot to create space from your defender.

Are you doing it yourself or putting players through it?
Should I be a student video coordinator?
Hi everyone, writing this post because I am considering becoming a video coordinator for my college's mens basketball team. I'm going to be a senior in college next year and I've thought about pursuing it the last week or two after having lunch with a former NBA scout and he said it would be a great way to get experience and lead to a possible NBA path. I'm currently coaching a lot of AAU (5th-12th grade) and private train a lot and know long term I want to do player development and train players, but kind of like the idea of having a chance to break into the NBA. Of course thats not a guarantee, but what do you guys think? Based off what I'm trying to do, does it make sense for me to pursue this?

What is best way to break zone defense
Tell me more about it I have 2 big man but they all beginners. Just got beat so bad last game. I ran 1 4 2 big guys in elbows but they tried to gamble every time. We didn’t take care of the balls well enough.

@Primus Chan the top, wing or corner. It doesn’t matter tbh. To beat the zone the ball has to get middle touches. Middle touches from a pass can be from overloading a side or quick ball reversals with a middle flasher. Middle touches off the dribble can come from attacking off a screen from the top/wing or attacking a closeout from a ball reversal

@Primus Chan defenses know to not let the ball get to the middle because that’s where the zone typically breaks down. Just keep exploring different ways to get the ball to the middle and rep it out. It will take time but once your kids are comfortable the offense will be a lot better
Underated Skills
What’s one basketball skill you thought was OVERRATED…until you actually got better at it? I notice a lot of player underestimate things like conditioning, footwork, or passing angles…until they realize it completely changes their game.

Definitely footwork. I'd throw in jabs and rip throughs as well. Not sure if you would consider them a skill but I feel they're definitely undertaught/underrated
