Where do you play your flute or other instruments?
I was curious how many of you are playing in community bands, or flute choirs, or church or retirement centers? I am in Band of the Hills community band and loving it! Band has always been a place that I fit in and feel like there is no judgement, no matter how I show up. I also am part of a flute choir from Band of the Hills from time to time, I love our flute section. I also, "force" myself to put on a recital for my family, so I can have a goal and it also helps me learn how to handle pressure from performing. Of course, finding Flutarians has been a huge blessing to me and has been life changing for me! I love being able to participate in the classes and taking lessons with Vic has totally changed my playing. I am so thankful! I would love to hear what you all are doing.

@Sheri Hudgins omg, in my FB memories for TODAY, I just noticed, was the first gig at the library I mentioned. Sharing just for verification purposes 😝 https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Zxq15RQvs/?mibextid=wwXIfr

@Sheri Hudgins No, in Mexico! The library is called the Oaxaca Lending Library-- it's bilingual and the only library in this city that has a significant collection of English-language books. It's run by a combination of Oaxacans and people from the US and Canada.

For me, playing the flute at retirement homes and at the mall at Christmastime when I was a teenager. Back then, I hated playing Greensleeves over and over and over, but OMG people love hearing it. It makes people cry. Now I know that to keep it fresh for myself I can IMPROVISE!! Now I like playing the song because I can always make it different!
Is Flute Playing Therapeutic?
I had a really, really, really hard day today and the last couple of days were pretty tough too. I wasn't able to practice much the last few days. Tonight I got my flute out and had some time to play and I feel so much better and more peaceful. Does anyone else feel like playing their flute is therapeutic?

@Vic Wheeler I think playing the flute is totally breathwork. I had been playing flute for years and then started doing yoga, and the breathwork part of yoga was very easy (and enjoyable) for me to learn because it was very similar to the kind of breathing you do when playing the flute.

And if I could be playing anywhere tomorrow it would have to be either in a roda in Rio de Janeiro or a ceili on the west coast of Ireland!
