Last week's races and this
I didn't post up last weekends events but last night we reviewed the yoof stuff poolside with @Ian Hamilton and @Fergus Currie . The British Super Series had a bit of a squad with our youngsters out in force. It is elite in nature so maybe not super interesting for us normal people but it shows the level possible when you are up for it. Israel and Rory ( now coached out of the national centre) we're up against the seniors and both gave good accounts of themselves with Israel taking P3. Rory is still building post REDs and we know he will find full form again in summer. Daniel, Finlay and Joe went in Youth B. Tier 1 race Daniel took P7 and in Tier 2 Joe and Finlay took a 1 2 for GTC! Closer to home @Catriona Tennant continues to impress with a nice AG win at the Thornhill 10k. Big swathe of ' sportive' rides so as these are not races there are no results as such but some great rides across the board. @Clark Pheely , young Veitchy and Alan Kennedy conquered the monstrous Fred Whitton. @Beppo Buchanan-Smith @John Taylor @Mark Brown all having a day out at the Etape..great training miles in the bag. Over in Bute Maeve back to tri action post Hyrox and @Craig Taylor first tri of season. How did you go craig? This weekend is all go again: Daniel is taking on the Islands Peak race. @Beppo Buchanan-Smith @Catriona Tennant at Southport tri @Nathalie Brohan at the Gralloch @Zoe Newsam and @Mark Brown at the Bealach sportive And a big squad at the Outlaw half. @Chris Bryson @Angela Paterson @Duncan Martin @Craig Hogg and Jill Robbie

Bute went well, bit slower than I would’ve like in the pool but bike and run felt good! Bit of an injury or something to sort which is unfortunate but didn’t affect me on the day. Lovely wee trip over on the Ferry and cracking weather!
Training Snacks
Hi all, I’ve been trying to figure out some good snacks to have whilst out training or for race day, to supplement gels. I’ve tried out rice krispie bars, rice cakes, Stryker rice bar, Waf-fuls, and god knows what else. They all have drawbacks for me ao looking for advice from the athletes in here 🙂 Currently trying some banana lunchbox loaves, which are really easy to eat, have 19g carbs but I’m a bit worried about fibre. Any recommendations?

Tried the split of solids first, then gels today. Didn’t have time to prep so it was x2 pan au chocolat, x2 Welsh cakes (bit crumbly after the first), and x2 gels. Worked well, so I’ll keep trying this strategy 👍
Favourite Race format
Dog walk musings. Today there are a plethora of races and formats to play with. Back in the early 90s there were much fewer opportunities to have organised fun. The race brochure for the first M dot race in the UK profiled all 5 IM races on the go. Yes 5. No Challenge, No PT100..no social media nada. So what's your favourite race format?

I’ve liked the variety of Solo point 5 and Aviemore, but past this year I think I’ll try to do shorter, and more.
Tri Bike - Which One?
So I recently had a bike fit and found that the optimum position for me was a long way from what I had been using. The result is my Trek Emonda has been sold (turn out I had a frame size too small). Now caught in a quandary about do I get another road bike I can adapt to fit me then still use later on the road, or get a time trial bike that is dialed into to my fit? I do have a Specialized Diverge that I train on during winter that is actually a great fit for me, and can flip it between gravel and road set up, so not sure I really need a second road bike. Anyway would appreciate thought from those that have TT bikes, I should say that doing my first Ironman distance in July but likely to drop back to Standard and Sprint in coming years. Cheers Tom

Audiobooks
A wee while ago I was really struggling to get my swim sessions done consistently- I live over half an hour from the pool so it’s a right faff. So I came up with an incentive: get the swim done early-ish (but not too early) then treat myself to a coffee and bacon roll for breakfast afterwards. Chance to sit and listen to an audiobook for a wee bit, and just chill, something I basically never do otherwise. I’ve been listening to this brilliant book, (Swimmingly, by Vassos Alexander) but I’ve almost finished it, so I need another one! https://open.spotify.com/show/13zsVDHeEsn2trxMRbVcCZ?si=zp7uIbcqR4uiDqCpK-9Lpw So - sport-related adventurous books you enjoyed… recommendations?

Really interested in any recommendations! I’ve only read cycling-related ones but have Racing Through the Dark by David Millar on my list of audiobooks (read it years ago and was amazing). If it’s any use to folk, Amazon Music includes 1 audiobook per month instead of adding Audible.
