Bird Watching - 2nd Toe Beans Release
https://open.spotify.com/track/56ocA25pGMKJOGIGSKQPdz?si=P7ohAksbQFWBnZ10ZLd0zA The Toe Beans adventure continues 😆 i feel this song is more 'put together' than my last track. Composition, arrangement and playing I feel I did better on this one. So that's something 💪 I hope you're all having a wonderful day Big love 🐱🎸♥️

Congratulations on your second release, @Freddie Webber! A really smooth and laid-back track with a great Friday vibe to kick off the weekend 😸 May I ask how you created/recorded the beat?
Let's talk about ghost artists 👻
@Brian Hennessey recently made an interesting discovery when his track Lifted landed on the high-reach Spotify editorial playlist "Deep Focus" (see https://www.instagram.com/p/DZ5ahDUCaiH/). The rumors about so-called "ghost artists" and the term "Perfect Fit Content" (PFC) used internally by Spotify were already uncovered some time ago in Liz Pelly's book Mood Machine. What I've been missing since then is quantifiable evidence about how common these artists actually are in major playlists. To shed some light on this, I've spent the last few days building a tool with Claude Code to identify the "ghosts". I'm currently cross-checking the results with Brian and wanted to share them with you. Full methodology and results are in the HTML file below. 👇🏼 If you know of other suspicious playlists you'd like me to run through the tool, or if you have tips and ideas on how to improve the detection methodology, I'd love to hear your feedback. 🎸

Thanks, Simon! This is the sort of ‘work’ that’s fun, and perhaps also helps to shed more light on these shady practices. What amazes me most of all is Spotify’s almost hypocritical strategy: on the one hand, they’re pushing a transparency campaign with the ‘Verified’ badge to identify ‘genuine’ artists; on the other hand, their own major playlists are full of ghost artists.
Beatles cover and music video
Hey everyone, I'm very excited about this instrumental Beatles cover on my new EP, and it comes with a scenic music video too - filmed in south-east Australia's misty rainforests. If that sounds interesting, please give it a watch and a like (I'm trying to crack YouTube, haha) https://youtu.be/WfkNy9twi54 Cheers, Max

@Max Fedoseev That’s a wonderful rendition of this classic song, and the accompanying footage of the rainforest is a work of art in its own right. I hope the YouTube algorithm pushes this video out to the whole world 🤞🏼
Distributor Thoughts/Recommendations
Hello Everyone. First, I’d like to thank Sebastian for accepting me into this group and look forward to getting to know everyone. I’m hoping to get some sage advice. I am putting the final touches on my first song and have been doing a lot of research on the various distributors (DistroKid, CD Baby, etc.). To be honest, I’m a little overwhelmed by all the choices. For those of you who have already released your music, I would love to get your thoughts/experiences on which ones you would recommend (or would avoid)? I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed before.

Hey Robert, great to have you here and congrats on your first release coming up! 🎉 The distributor question is a real rabbit hole. When I put out my first song in 2021 I went with DistroKid without much research, and I've stayed there ever since. No complaints: uploads are simple, unlimited, and the turnaround to streaming platforms is fast. The MusicianPlus plan is worth it if you want to schedule release dates in advance, which I'd recommend from the start. That said, if I were starting today I'd take more time to compare. DistroKid locks a few things behind additional fees that other distributors include by default: YouTube Content ID, lifetime distribution after you cancel ("Legacy"), and a couple of others. Depending on what you need, that can add up. For a solid overview of all the main options, Ari's Take has probably the most thorough comparison out there: https://aristake.com/digital-distribution-comparison/ Good luck with the release, looking forward to hearing it! 🎸
