Dodge EVAP System
Since there is a lot of guys on here with little to no experience and EVAP codes on these vehicles are so common, I thought I would throw this out there. I have seen a lot of incorrect information online about the Dodge ESIM evap system and someone ask me about it today.
This is not a leak detection pump. This is not a vent solenoid. It is a mechanical vent with 2 weights and a switch. The switch is not controlled by the PCM, it is an on/off switch that tells the PCM what is happening inside the ESIM. So you can not control this thing with bi-directional controls or apply power and ground to make it do something. One of the weights will vent pressure if there is to much pressure on the EVAP system, and the other will vent vacuum if there is to much vacuum on the EVAP system. When you use a smoke machine to do a leak test on the EVAP system you have to pull the hose off the ESIM and put a cap over it to seal the EVAP system so the smoke machine can build pressure to find a leak. Smoke machines are typically 0.5-1 psi and I think it takes less than 0.25 psi to move the weight inside the ESIM.
