Checkmate
It was chess
Seventh grade
Ninth for you
Neither of us
Cared much
For the game
But it was
The start
The first fatal step
Towards our inevitable
Collision
And now
Nearly
Twenty years
Later
We still
Play the game
That neither
Of us
Has ever truly
Loved
Because it
Simply
Became
A language
Our hearts
Spoke
