In 2017, while I was still recovering from my breakdown, I was searching for Natural Therapists to help me (I had chosen not to use drugs). They were very hard to find.
To say thank you to those who helped me, I decided to form a community and bring the local therapists together, to share their story and get to know each other, and invite the unwell to also meet them.
A virus and lockdowns shut us down!
So I took The MELD online - as a Facebook Group. We were nomads, so everywhere I went, I started another community...
I identified the problem most therapists had was being found, just like when I was trying to find one. The other problem was the limited amount of information available on alternative therapies, to know which one I needed. So I started a web page and shared information about the world of alternative healers. I shared my content to my Facebook page - and the algorithm pushed my posts down the feed, as insignificant... I know this because I received messages from Facebook that said exactly that.
Over time I came to the conclusion that the algorithm would be a perpetual hinderance, because the social media platform is a commercial enterprise that supports the mainstream systems. I was going against the flow, and therefore not something to be promoted.
I tried a few other social media platforms, but they all seemed to be 'managed' in the same way.
Then I found Skool. A community based platform not recognized by the mainstream platforms, and one with a focus like I needed it to be to build Community. So here I am, recreating The MELD.
I have not used the name because introducing something new and a new name has proven more of a battle than it's worth to fight. We may go there again in the future, just not now.
The Healers Hub is where I now put 99% of my focus, helping healers, and people who market wellness products and services, to be found. I'll come back tomorrow and share more of this story.
