Need Help with Pricing
I have a question about pricing (which was discussed so many times in all the posts I read), but my question is about a specific aspect of the pricing issue. You see, many people say that as you are starting, charge low (let's say $100 for a one-page website with simple SEO), and keep increasing your fees as you get more clients, testimonials, and trust. But the cons here (I think) are the following:
❌ You will only break even (at best)
❌You burn yourself for pennies on the dollar
❌You risk establishing yourself as a "cheap" brand, which could be a problem as you are scaling (if you do scale, since word of mouth - most efficient marketing strategy- will put you in a position where a $100 client attracts a like-minded one, and if you do increase the fees, you should explain that)
❌ Clients always expect and want more (since they see your work as so simple, it only costs 100 bucks)
Now, on the other hand, I can do high-ticket offers, but since I am just starting, that may not work, since clients probably won't trust me.
Some say take pro-bono work at first to encourage clients, but that would mean covering all the costs, which will break the project before it starts (It's not like I have a huge capital to start with).
Still, I thought of a workaround, but I want your opinion on it (and hopefully, it can benefit someone here). I can offer a free trial where we only create the design using Figma, show the client what is possible, and maybe a "draft" of the website), show the value we can do for them, and then upsell them for a high ticket offer (well, at the start it won't be that high ticket, something between $500-$1000). That way, clients won't be blindly signing a deal with an unknown brand nobody has heard of.
Looking forward to hearing your opinions about all this.
