Heyyy, good morning Nurse Fam! 💕 Y’all, it’s Sunday @ 7:39 AM and I’m out walking. The sun is out, the air is fresh, and I must say… 🌝 As I’m walking, it hit me… THE WORLD IS MINE. 😤😂 Okay, maybe it’s the fresh air that got me feeling a little euphoric this morning 😩😂 but seriously… I thank God every day 🙏🏼 for giving me the willpower to become a nurse. When I really think back, I honestly don’t know if I could finish nursing school NOW at my big ol’ age. 😂 So thank God… and thank ME for not giving up! 👏🏽 Because nursing school was NOT easy — and I know y’all know! And respectfully… everybody just doesn’t have what it takes. 🤷🏽♀️☕️ When you really think about it, we are some of the chosen workers on this earth. We take care of people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. That means something. ❤️ And for years, I wanted to honor that. I worked full-time, 12-hour shifts, for 15 years. And for a long time, it was satisfying because I felt like I was giving back. I believed that if I continued doing good work and helping people, I would be blessed for it. And I WAS blessed… but somewhere along the way I had to ask: What about my mental health? My happiness? My spiritual alignment? My personal relationships? MY LIFE? Baby… it was called BURNOUT. 😩 And when you’re burned out, you’re sometimes too distracted and exhausted to even SEE the opportunities around you. Opportunities that allow you to use your nursing license to do more than just WORK. You can use that license to POSITION YOURSELF like the professional you are. TF! 👏🏽 Nowadays, these facilities need nurses so badly that sometimes I find myself spinning THEM. 😂😂 So really… WHO HAS THE POWER? And another thing… Why didn’t nursing school teach us about the BUSINESS of nursing?! 🤔 Nobody taught us how many opportunities exist for nurses outside of traditional bedside roles. Nobody taught us that we could build businesses, create additional income streams, negotiate differently, leverage our knowledge, and STILL serve people.
