Dividends
Someone I learned today:
When you invest in an index fund, you receive a composite dividend that is collected from the underlying companies and then distributed to you. The fund gathers all dividends from its holdings—such as those in the S&P 500—and pays them to shareholders, typically quarterly or annually, often with the option for automatic reinvestment (DRIP).
