Here is the story behind the Quest. You can find the deadlines at the bottom:
There is a place at the bottom of the deepest ocean where every soul who ever burned themselves out for capitalism eventually washes up. It's not punishment, or purgatory. It's a rest stop. A sanctuary built into the trench at the deepest point of the sea, lit by bioluminescent jellyfish and lanterns made of pearl-light, where exhausted souls go to sit down, look at the road they walked, and decide what comes next.
The Library only opens its doors to the living once a year. When the veil thins. When Samhain approaches. When the moon turns toward Taurus and whispers: enough. That's October. And this year, the Library is calling people down on purpose.
I'm Crystal, the Dreaming Witch. I find the burned-out souls who are still alive but dragging. I find them in their dreams, and I say: come down to the Library. Marina is waiting. The Librarians have been holding wisdom for you.
"The Librarians can feel it in the tides. Souls are arriving faster than they can be tended to. This year, we don't wait for them to wash up. This year, we call them down while they're still alive."
The Librarians of the Deep are your experts. 40 to 60 souls who chose to stay. Each one tends the wing of wisdom that matches the road they walked. If your work lives anywhere on the spectrum of burnout, rest, boundaries, sustainable business, chronic illness, nervous system, ancestral wisdom, the sacred pause, or anything else you think would be a great fit, there is a wing in the Library with your name on it.
The World
Marina, Keeper of the Library, greets every seeker by name. Librarian's cardigan, coral pencil in her hair, a kraken tattoo, bare feet on the pearl-dust floor.
Captain Thackery Roe rows seekers down from the Dreaming to the Library. Marina has told him to stop offering flasks to the passengers, but he won’t.
Wren the Awakened greets seekers at the Library door and asks one piercing question that sets up the day's lesson.
Old Hob has been in the Library 800 years. Marina has tried to remove him 47 times, but it never sticks.
Death appears on Day 12. Says: "Not today. Rest while you can." Then she's gone.
