Dear Diary - My Recent Exploits of the Doc Film (also posted on The Filmmaking Journey. Think of this post like a Crossover Event lol)
Hey everyone! So update: this week, so far, I manually transcribed 80% of my video interview with Ryan (who I interviewed on his experience with DVDs, CDs and VHS). And I just did some shots for the film. How it went was i was planning on doing the shots and finishing manually transcribing during the weekend but one could argue the Spirit moved me to do some filmmaking shots 😅 a strong ever growing urge if you will. I just did two shots of the Netflix logo, and I thought that’d be it but I was moved/urged to try some shots. Ideas were popping in my head. I did the dominoes in slow motion suggestion (it was one of the in total 28 shots I took). And, I am going to be honest everyone… I feel/felt wayyyyy out my depth with this 😅🙃 like I was filming and I admit, i felt way out of my depth and cringe lol (but I persevered telling myself a mantra I got from a YouTube content creator named a Francesca Ramsey where she says creators we have high standards but when we start, the output doesn’t match our taste levels. And she said it’s cause we just started and she said folks say when trying to start this content creation thing, in the beginning they feel cringe and she says “you gotta get over the cringe. Gotta climb over cringe mountain”. So that’s what I told myself “I gotta get over the cringe”. I persevered despite feeling way out my depth and cringeworthy, 28 shots later. I admit though, it feels beautiful , the evolution of my filmmaking journey. If let’s say in future, fingers crossed I become a great and renowned filmmaker, tracking the journey of my filmmaking craft, from the short I made eons ago and the shots for this documentary, I think it’s beautiful in that it tracks the journey of my becoming as an artist. And plus I pushed through cause I reminded myself that I wanted this so bad and if I wanna be a filmmaker I gotta fight and soldier through Mt Cringe. So, that’s my progress so far. Also, by doing these shots, I learnt practically about shot composition. I wouldn’t call it on the job learning/training on shot composition, but for lack of a better term, yeah on the job learning/training.
