Steps to winning contracts:
1. Determine Your Readiness - Make sure your business is registered and has a strong foundation (LLC, business license, bank account, EIN, etc.).
2. Register Your Business - Get a UEI (Unique Entity ID) at SAMgov (mandatory for federal contracts). - Complete your SAMgov registration (System for Award Management).
3. Identify Your NAICS Code(s)
- This code defines what type of product or service your business provides.
4. Prepare Your Capability Statement
- A one-page document summarizing what your business does, past performance, certifications, and contact info.
5. Certify for Set-Asides (if eligible)
- Consider certifications like:
- Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB)
- Minority-Owned
- Veteran-Owned
- HUBZone
- 8(a) Program
6. Find Opportunities
- Use SAMgov for federal contracts.
- Check local/state portals for contracts in your area.
- Explore DIBBS (DLA), FedBizOpps, and SubNet for more.
7. Build Relationships
- Attend matchmaking events, webinars, and small business outreach programs.
8. Submit Bids/Quotes
- Respond to RFPs (Request for Proposal) or RFQs (Request for Quote).
- Follow instructions exactly and stay compliant.
