Welcome, start here!
Again glad you are here and here are some housekeeping items… #1 - To kick things off, please, create a post to introduce yourself and please share an image of your work. #2 - One of things you will want to get a hang of is using the Search Bar at the top of the application window. As this private club grows and to save your time from scrolling through the entire discussion feeds, use the search bar to data mine for Keywords, so that those discussions threads will pop up in the search results window. #3 - I have some general house rules that I hope everyone can follow to ensure we make this a safe place for sharing, collaboration, and positivity: 1. Respect: All members must treat each other with respect. No personal attacks, no hate speech, no trolling, no bullying. 2. Professionalism: As this is a community for professionals, members should maintain a level of professionalism. 3. Confidentiality: What is shared in the group should stay in the group, unless explicit permission is given to share the information outside. 4. Stay on Topic: Posts and comments should be relevant to the discussion threads. Off-topic posts may be removed. If I need to create another discussion categories I will but remember this private club isn't all about those clicks-n-picks, we are focusing on the other things that doesn't get taught or discussed in this manner. 5. No Spam: While it's fine to share your work or your business, spam is not allowed. 6. Help Each Other: The purpose of the community is to support each other's growth and development in Urban Sketching, and drawing. Members are encouraged to help each other out by sharing insights, experiences, and constructive feedback. 7. Quality Over Quantity: Encourage meaningful and thoughtful conversation over frequent, less substantial posts. 8. Ask for Help: If members are unsure whether something is appropriate to post, they should feel free to reach out to the admin or moderator for guidance. 9. Reporting Violations: If members see someone else breaking the rules, they should not engage but rather report the violation to the admin or moderator. 10. Disclaimer: The views expressed within the community are those of the individual members and do not necessarily represent or reflect the views of the community as a whole. We get it, but be mindful when sharing and receiving information.

Getting Started Course
In the classroom, I've started a new course called getting started. I'm gradually adding exercises to this course and I've started with the most basic, what the course is all about, how to use your pencil for sighting, and how to hold your pencil. I will gradually be adding more complex lessons to this area, so keep your eye on it.

Pen and Magic Marker
I have some new paper on a small sketching book that I use. It’s known as stone paper, from Karst “Stone paper is a durable, waterproof, and eco-friendly, tree-free alternative to traditional paper, made from approximately 80% calcium carbonate (limestone waste) and 20% HDPE plastic. It uses no water or bleach in production, is tear-resistant, and provides a smooth, friction-free writing surface. It is commonly used for notebooks and, via Karst Goods, YouTube and Amazon sketchpads.” Was sketching, this paper is very unusual because it doesn’t take water. I didn’t really have an explanation when I bought this, I was really looking for watercolour paper and I looked at the weight of the stone paper and it’s about two 20 g/m² which I thought would be great for watercolours. It turns out that the paper is actually waterproof, I wasn’t given a good explanation. I bought it but doing some research today. I found out that it’s made out of calcium carbide limestone waste and a little bit of plastic. Now that explains quite a lot. and a little bit of plastic. Now that explains quite a lot. What I have found if I use a regular ball point pen it goes on this stone paper very well, extremely black. I’ve also tried experimenting with using an alcohol based magic marker on top of this paper. What I found is that not only does it not leak through the paper but it also picks up the pen and allows you to use that ink from the ball point as a shading. The first time I used this it came out far too dark for me. I thought I’d share my latest sketch and explain a little bit more about how I got the effect.

Urban Sketching at the Recycling Yard
This weekend we went out to do some urban sketching. It was at a recycling station, where you go to drop off your heavy recycling. I don't wanna call it a junkyard because it's not junk it's recyclable material. We had a great time I was with my friends and here's some of the sketches that I did. This short move shows you how I set up the drawing, use the pencil for sighting, perspective, and proportion. The long movie is here: #Live sketching at The Scrap Metal Yard
