Hey all π,
As explained yesterday, it's not necessary to write a full business plan if you're not seeking investors or similar stakeholders. Instead, what I use to get a clear overview of my SaaS solution is the Business Model Canvas (BMC) approach. The BMC is a powerful visual framework that allows you to map out all the critical components of your business model on a single page. This approach helps in understanding, designing, and articulating your business model in a clear and structured way. The Business Model Canvas is divided into nine key building blocks:
- Customer Segments: Who are the different groups of people or organizations your business aims to reach and serve?
- Value Propositions: What are the unique products and services that create value for your customer segments?
- Channels: How do you deliver your value propositions to your customer segments? Through which touchpoints do you interact with your customers?
- Customer Relationships: What type of relationship does each of your customer segments expect you to establish and maintain with them?
- Revenue Streams: How does your business earn revenue from each customer segment?
- Key Resources: What are the most important assets required to make your business model work?
- Key Activities: What are the most important things your company must do to make your business model work?
- Key Partnerships: Who are the key partners and suppliers needed to make your business model work?
- Cost Structure: What are the major costs involved in operating your business model?
Using the Business Model Canvas can help us systematically understand how different elements of our business fit together and identify areas for improvement or innovation. Below, I've provided a template that you can use to create your own Business Model Canvas.
I use draw.io, a free tool, to create my Business Model Canvas. It's very user-friendly and perfect for this purpose. I've also attached a template you can use to get started. Feel free to use this template to map out your own business model. If you have any questions or need further guidance, don't hesitate to reach out!
Best,
Sven
