Why do so many people involved in witchcraft use these natural beauties? Many think it's just an esthetic. Some think it is a gimmick! But the use of the earths natural raw materials is anything but when it comes to witchcraft! And it all comes down to energy.
Science! What a wonderful thing we have invented. To deeply understand things on a molecular level. To understand how things interact with each other. To understand the depths of the universe and it's incredible complexity. Many think science refutes magic, spirituality and tradition, but in fact, science does more to confirm all of it than one may ever realize unless they look deeper.
One of the best examples when it comes to crystals is Quartz! Quartz is used in lots of technologies to conduct electricity. Your watch has a tiny piece of this crystal that helps it keep time! Quartz when put under pressure, emits an electric charge. Take it to a beach during an electrical storm and it will actually morph on a molecular level! Let wet quartz get struck by lightning and you get fulgurites, or petrified lightning! Small glass tubes formed from the intense heat and pressure!
Now, the human body has to have electricity in it to animate. Our brain waves are electrical. Our nerves are electrical. So, something that can be affected by electric energy like quartz, that has to have some kind of realistic effect on the human body! Modern or mainstream science may refute that it has any affect on a level that can be measured by our instruments of science. But they cant seem to account for the human brain creating pathways in reality based on our beliefs! Science can't fully understand why a person who believes something is helping them, is actually seeing improvement based on belief alone!
Crystals are incredibly ancient. The very oldest ever found are Zircon! They were formed not long after the planet itself was formed. We are talking 4.4 Billion years old! Tiger's eyes were formed by a fascinating process more recently discovered, called the "crack and seal" process. Their oldest deposits are around 2.5 billion years old! When we look at stones and crystals, we are looking at history going back before the dinosaurs, before life itself was even known to exist on earth at all!
Crystals and gems have been used in representational magic for thousands of years. Representational magic is what it sounds like. Using something to represent something else. When we look at a basic witchy diagram of crystal metaphysical properties, there has been more or less a consensus on several kinds. And others may vary based on how they have been used by individual practitioners. But representation is solidified with intention.
Using crystals in tarot readings are said to boost accuracy and some crystals are meant to affect your psychic abilities as well. Using them while working spells will boost certain aspects. For example, a spell meant to heal one's self would do well to include rose quartz which promotes self care/self love. Crystals are used especially in warding, along with elements like salt. Salt is also essentially a type of crystal or sediment.
If you've never used crystals for anything like this before, the concept probably seems foreign. The human mind when tuned to certain accepted realities can be persuaded to feel and think differently upon prompting. Just like trauma can shape our emotional and even physical responses, so can tuning the mind to accept a concept that others may not grasp or accept. Teaching yourself to tune into crystals and stones and their metaphysical properties is like a hack to the system. And for those who stand by this, it actually really works!
More about the study if metaphysical works will continue and is tremendously important to understand if you are aspiring to learn witchcraft! Everything in witchcraft is about energy and intention. Reciprocation with the spiritual realm is paramount to actually being able to work with helpful entities. 3 things, energy, intention, sacrifice. What offering will you give to the deity who's favor you seek? Crystals and gems make EXCELLENT offerings! And that is just another way they can be used in witchcraft and Paganism!
