Rental Cars and Service Dogs when traveling
While in New Mexico, we had a rental car company send workers to block our car from exiting the parking lot due to my service dog being with us. They saw us loading in our luggage and stopped us to let us know. It was against our rental agreement, despite her being a service dog. Service dogs are not pets under the ADA. Rental car companies cannot deny you a vehicle, charge extra fees, or restrict vehicle options because of a service dog. Your service dog is legally allowed to ride with you, and standard cleaning or pet fees do not apply. The only time you can be charged is if there is actual damage beyond normal wear, just like any other renter.
