San Antonio Marathon Pre-race
Clarify your Intention.
What do you want to experience during this race?
I want to go into this race with a calm, grateful attitude, even though I have been frustrated with my body. I will focus on being present in each mile, smiling at volunteers and other runners, and enjoying that I even get to be out there. Mentally, I want to stay kind to myself instead of judging my pace. Physically, I will respect my limits, run within myself, and listen closely to what my body is telling me.
Claim The Win
No matter the outcome, how has your process already been a success?
This race is already a win because I have made huge progress in my endurance and speed this year, even while struggling to run as much as I hoped. The fact that I kept showing up and made it to the start line at all is a real breakthrough.
Spot The Fear
“I’m afraid of ___, but when it shows up, I’ll ___.”
I am afraid of pushing through the wrong kind of pain and injuring myself without realizing it, but when it shows up, I will slow down, check in with my body, and give myself permission to walk or stop if I need to. I am afraid of feeling like a failure if I cannot hold my goal pace, but when that shows up, I will remind myself that finishing healthy and grateful matters more than any number on the clock.
