Workout Details:
- What run did you do? Legacy Run (4x5min Z3 with Z2 recoveries)
- What was your goal for this session? Nail the efforts even though legs were feeling really tired from bike workout yesterday
Part 1: Reading After the Run
- Pull out one sentence or passage from today's reading that stood out to you. Write it here: "It doesn’t matter how old I get, but as long as I continue to love I’ll always discover something new about myself. No matter how long you stand there examining yourself naked before a mirror, you’ll never see reflected what’s inside."
- Why did this line resonate with you?
Part 2: Carving Space
During today's run, what quality of presence emerged that doesn't exist in other parts of your day? What made this possible?
I looked forward to today’s run all day, however it kept getting pushed further and further into the day. The first half of the run felt amazing, but I hit a wall on the second half. My heart rate wasn’t matching my perceived effort at all. Ended up having to walk/run the remainder which was frustrating after some really good bike rides over the last week. On a positive note, I did feel accomplished afterward.
Identify three specific areas of your life that are crowded with noise, urgency, or distraction. What's the cost of this crowding?
Business, Foster Care, Travel. I have been getting caught up in the unknown and letting it run parts of my day. Need to do a better job being in control of my time and energy.
For one of these areas, describe what it would look and feel like if you carved deliberate space within it—the same quality of space you experience during your runs:
Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. Endurance training has actually increased this because now I wanna do cool shit in cool places! We have multiple trips planned the rest of the year and I have been getting caught up in planning, booking, etc. I can carve deliberate space by making swift decisions and sticking with it, as well as recognizing that I can do some of this cool shit much closer to home, it doesn’t always have to be an epic travel situation multiple times a year.
What is one effort in your life where you're pushing hard but making little progress? How might intentional space transform your approach?
Small, bad habits have been my focus lately. Snacking between meals, grabbing Oreos after dinner, watching too much YouTube, not winning the morning, etc. I get my training in, my overall diet has vastly improved, but my days could be cleaned up. The reading/writing challenge has definitely helped by waking up and doing that in the morning. I’ll be doubling down my intention on that going forward.
