Two things for me are critical in how I approach coaching:
1) The Four Corner Model
Technical
Tactical
Physical
Social & Emotional
You can be the fastest player in the world but if you don’t know when to turn it on or how to use it you will struggle.
For a player centred approach, the 4th corner is critical. Some coaches call this attitude, I call it social & emotional because someone attitude could easily be influenced by the coaching, if we as coaches can undergang and work with the social & emotional we might get a better attitude?
2) Toolbox coaching is the way forward:
We cannot script rugby. Players need to control the game that see happening in front of them.
As a coach I develop their toolbox.
Each tool has a purpose and solves a problem or creates an opportunity. Give the players authority to decide which tool to use and when.
What key things do you see as critical when you are coaching?
