Homeschooler's Club - Catapult Engineering Challenge!
Hi Parents,
I am so proud of the students' work from last week!
LAST WEEK: “Build a City”
Students practiced real-world thinking across all subjects:
Reading
Analyzed characters
Practiced sequencing and inferring
Used graphic organizers to identify main ideas
Writing
Created a structured city plan
Practiced organizing ideas clearly
Focused on complete sentences and descriptive language
STEM
Designed city layouts
Thought through transportation, buildings, and problem-solving systems
Applied logic and planning skills
Math
Used measurement
Solved multi-step word problems
Practiced multiplication/division concepts
Valentine’s Workbook
Students completed themed academic pages while practicing grammar, problem-solving, and comprehension.
Remember: Students must submit at least ONE assignment per subject
(Reading, Writing, Math, STEM).
They should also be updating their weekly tracker. <<< see the CLASSROOM TAB at the top of SKooL . .we'll be using Skool again to find free resources and tools for homeschooling >
When your child completes 4 full weeks of assignments, they earn 800 Robux!!
The tracker teaches:
Independence
Time management
Follow-through
Accountability
We are building more than grades — we are building executive functioning skills that will last them a lifetime!
THIS WEEK: CATAPULT ENGINEERING CHALLENGE
This week, students will become engineers!
They will:
Reading
Read informational text about force and motion
Identify key ideas and vocabulary
Writing
Write a clear step-by-step engineering plan before building
Math
Measure launch distance
Record trials
Analyze data
STEM
Build a working catapult (instructions are inside the workbook)
Test and improve their design
We will complete Day 1 activities (from the full curriculum workbook) together in class. Students will then complete the remaining activities independently between sessions.
Minimum expectation:
1 Reading
1 Writing
1 Math
1 STEM
Of course, they may complete more.
This week especially encourages:
Planning before action
Testing and revising
Resilience when something doesn’t work the first time
Real learning. Real life skills.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I’m excited to see their launches!
To recap: The Explorer's workbook has a full curriculum. Feel free to use it as you wish to keep your child engaged throughout the week. We'll be doing pages 6,8, and 9 together in class. They do NOT have to print it, unless you'd like them to. They can simply bring paper to class to write down their answers.
The second workbook has the projects we'll be doing for the next few weeks. This week is the catapult week-pg. 15-16.
Next week is the boat project: pg. 17-18
The week of March 2nd, we'll be doing the tinfoil painting project on pg. 19
The week of March 10th, we'll be doing the Star Card project and planting seeds in a pot.
Please see the attached workbooks for full instructions, supplies, and extra projects for your family to continue learning in between sessions. Happy exploring!
Sincerely,
Mz. Marianna
