Most people only see the business that worked. They do not see the ones that failed before it. FIFO Australia is my fifth real business attempt. Before this, I failed four times. At 16, I tried self contracting as a steel erector. I had the idea, but I did not take enough action. I procrastinated, waited too long, and was not persistent enough. At 18, I started a water blasting business. We bought the wrong equipment, I partnered with someone who was not as committed, and after the first job, we gave up. Our first client was my mum. We actually did a good job, but I was 110kg on a roof and I knew deep down I was not fully in it. Then I tried NFTs. Twice. We made the art, but there was no real value behind it. Looking back, it was more of a quick money idea than a proper business. No mission, no service, no real problem being solved. Both failed. The fourth was a recruitment company. The idea was good, but I was with the wrong person, we did not have enough capital, and we did not build the right systems. I was working in the mines while trying to make it happen, but the drive and structure were not there. Then came FIFO Australia. This one was different. It had real purpose. We were helping real people solve real problems. Helping people get into mining. Helping people fix their resumes. Helping people understand FIFO. Helping people move to Australia. Helping people build better careers and better lives. Since starting FIFO Australia, the growth has been insane. We now have a team of 8, offer recruitment, mentorship, resume support, career guidance, and are moving towards training and assessing in the future. But even this business has not been easy. I had a business partner at the start, but over time we did not see eye to eye. I wanted to move faster, build properly, and take the company in the right direction. So I bought him out for $60,000. Now I am rebuilding again. Better systems. Better team. Better direction. Bigger vision. The biggest lesson I have learned is that business is not just about having an idea.
